Star Trek: Voyager documentary is close to being finished with premiere dates around the corner
As a long-time Star Trek fan and backer of the Star Trek: Voyager documentary, I’m thrilled to see that we’re finally approaching the home stretch of this exciting project. Three years ago, when the Indiegogo campaign was launched, I jumped at the opportunity to be part of bringing this behind-the-scenes look at one of my favorite Star Trek series to life.
In the year 2021, during a single month, an impressive sum of over $1.2 million was collected through Indiegogo for the creation of a Star Trek: Voyager documentary, now titled “To the Journey—Reflecting on Star Trek: Voyager.” Backers, or individuals who contributed financially like myself, have been kept informed about the project’s progress over the past three years. The most recent update announces a final completion goal for this film.
In a recent video production announcement, Joseph Kornbrodt, the producer and editor, shared that they will shift their focus to post-production following the approval of the final film edit, or “picture lock,” by next week. This phase involves tasks such as creating and recording the film score, inserting graphics, and other related work. The target completion date for the project is October 2024; however, it’s important to note that unforeseen circumstances may necessitate additional time beyond this deadline.
As a passionate fan, I had the opportunity to chat with the talented director, David Zappone, and he shared some exciting news with me! He mentioned that they’re planning to host premiere events for backers in New York, London, and Los Angeles during the initial weeks of November. For more specifics, keep an eye out for updates at Star Trek Las Vegas, happening in August this year.
If all goes well, a DVD/Blu-Ray version of the release should be available in the year 2025. As mentioned by Zappone, this edition is expected to contain approximately two hours of additional content akin to the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine documentary “What We Left Behind.” A formal world premiere will take place once a distributor has been secured for the film’s theatrical showings.
