Junyong Park not medically cleared, Alex Pereira brought to tears & Francis Ngannou ‘back in camp’

As a long-time combat sports enthusiast and avid follower of the UFC scene, I can’t help but be disappointed by the latest development regarding Junyong Park and his fight against Brad Tavares at UFC Vegas 94. Having watched many fighters face unexpected setbacks in their careers, I understand that these things are a part of the sport. However, it’s hard not to feel frustrated when a promising match-up like this one gets scrapped due to medical reasons.

In this new daily feature, I’ll share and analyze the latest combat sports news from around the world. Come back each morning to discover the most significant or intriguing headlines, along with my perspective on each topic.

Junyong Park not medically cleared to fight at UFC Vegas 94

At UFC Vegas 94, Junyong Park’s weight was checked against the limit for his bout with Brad Tavares. However, the athletic commission refused to approve him to compete, resulting in the cancellation of their scheduled fight.

We’re really disappointed that Park and Tavares’ fight won’t take place at this event because there aren’t many exciting matches scheduled instead. That match between Park and Tavares had the potential to be an incredible showdown. Fingers crossed they reschedule it soon. Here’s the revised fight card for your reference.

Alex Pereira brought to tears after special request was made

At the UFC, Alex Pereira, the light heavyweight champion known for his stoic demeanor, was touched deeply when a teenage cancer patient requested that he shave his head. Witness this heartfelt encounter in the video above.

I can relate to your emotions; Pereira has held a special place in my heart for a long time. Witnessing such a display, especially from someone as composed as him, is truly moving. This experience is bound to leave an indelible mark on both the child’s and Pereira’s memories.

Francis Ngannou ‘back in camp’ for PFL debut

For about three weeks now, Francis Ngannou has been grinding it out at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, getting ready for his PFL debut under the watchful eye of Ray Sefo. According to Ray, who serves as PFL’s President of Fighter Operations, “Francis trains with us, so he’s been back in camp.” The specifics, such as date and location, are still being worked out, but once those details are ironed out, both Ngannou and the opponent will prepare accordingly.

Based on my experience following MMA news and Francis Ngannou’s recent statements, I have my doubts about his participation in a PFL fight. While it’s true that Ngannou has returned to camp as he claimed, I find it hard to believe that this is for a PFL event given his previous intentions to pursue boxing.
