NASCAR: Full qualifying order revealed for the 2024 Brickyard 400

As a dedicated NASCAR fan with years of experience following the Brickyard 400, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia as the iconic race returns to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in 2024. The roar of the engines, the thrill of the competition, and the electric energy from the packed grandstands – these are experiences that have shaped my love for stock car racing.

As a huge NASCAR fan, I’ve always looked forward to the Brickyard 400. From 1994 to 2020, this race held a special place on the Cup Series schedule, often referred to as a crown jewel event. But after the 27th running in 2020, something exciting and new happened. Instead of racing around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval like we did for so many years, we now get to experience the thrill of competing on the road course. Can’t wait to see how this change will affect the outcome of the race!

The legendary 4-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana, which has been absent from the Cup Series schedule since 2019, is making a comeback in 2024. Excitingly, spectators are set to attend live races at this esteemed venue, renowned as the “Racing Capital of the World”.

At Indianapolis, the track length matches that of Daytona International Speedway. However, NASCAR classifies Indianapolis differently during qualifying sessions, making it distinct from a superspeedway.

In the 2020 NASCAR season and onward, each driver takes part in an individual qualifying run. The groups and their respective qualifying orders were established using a methodology employed by NASCAR. For a comprehensive understanding of this four-component formula, please refer to this explanation.

In each group, the top five drivers with the fastest lap times move on to the second round for competing in the pole position shootout. Lately, this shootout underwent a minor adjustment, but the driver boasting the quickest time among the 10 contenders will still claim the pole position.
