The thirty-two-year-old singer sustained an ACL injury while skiing and required assistance off the slope. Consequently, they have spent the past seven months concentrating on mental matters.

Sam described the irreversible nature of the harm, causing great worry among them, which they employed as motivation to address their issues.

Prior to this point, they hadn’t discussed the occurrence. However, in January, Sam was observed in New York City using a cane and wearing a boot due to an injury on their foot.

In an exclusive interview on the Sidetracked podcast, Sam opened up about his harrowing experience for the first time: Seven months ago, I suffered a terrible accident that required me to undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL. Since then, I’ve been putting most of my energy into dealing with the emotional fallout.

“My ACL tore completely while I was skiing. On the second day, I made a foolish decision to tackle a black slope.”

To provide further insight on an ACL tear, they mentioned: “This injury affects the ligament located between your bones, enabling you to jump and move with agility.”

I’ve been through a tough time with my leg recently. It got completely torn during an unfortunate incident, leaving me in a lot of pain and immobile. I considered going down the non-surgical route, hoping to avoid major surgery. However, this decision came with its own set of challenges. I couldn’t walk for an entire month on that leg, relying heavily on crutches for even the most basic tasks. The experience was awful – the pain, the frustration, and the constant reliance on others for assistance. It felt like every day was a struggle, but I kept pushing through, focusing on my recovery and the eventual return to mobility. Despite the challenges, I’m proud of myself for staying the course and am now on the road to a full recovery.

The first time I found myself completely unable to budge, gripping onto something heavy, I was filled with unease. I took advantage of the situation to organize my affairs.

In January, pictures emerged showing Sam hobbling about New York City with a cane and donning a lengthy knee brace on their right limb.

The Daily Mail requested additional information from Smith’s representatives as to why he was using a cane during that particular event.

Despite the injury, Sam will return to the stage next month for a performance at the BBC Proms. 

In April, it was revealed that Sam would take the stage at this year’s Proms; the BBC has made it clear that his performance will align with the festival’s standards.

In more straightforward terms, the celebrity has been involved in several questionable performances lately and frequently wears provocative and sexually suggestive clothing during live performances.

In 2019, Sam identified as non-binary and kindly requested that people use the pronouns “they” and “them” when speaking about or referring to them.

They will headline a BBC Prom concert this year on August 2 in an expansion of the pop programme.

After Sam’s provocative BRITs performance in 2023, which included elements of “devil worship” and a fiery kiss, received over 100 complaints to Ofcom.
