Married At First Sight’s Sam Stanton unleashes on Chris Robinson and reveals what REALLY went wrong behind the scenes: ‘I’m pretty hurt’

They weren’t the loudest couple on Married At First Sight.

However, the issues between Sam Stanton and Chris Robinson, which eventually led to the end of their relationship, had been developing for some time before becoming obvious.

Their relationship didn’t end with a dramatic fight; it gradually fell apart due to miscommunication and growing frustration. Now, Sam, age 34, is sharing his perspective on what happened.

In a candid interview with the Daily Mail, the groom said rewatching the show has been difficult and upsetting. However, one particular scene he hadn’t seen before was especially shocking.

‘Watching everything back… it really takes me back to how I felt in that moment,’ he said.

‘But the biggest thing sitting with me now is the unseen footage… I’m pretty f***ing hurt by it.’

Sam was shocked to learn what Chris, 38, supposedly said about him privately. Sam claims Chris made false statements about his money and where he lives.

‘Not only was it nasty – it’s not even true,’ he said.

I didn’t use a single coupon during the whole time we were together. Looking back, I believe I actually ended up spending more money than he did throughout the challenge.

‘I lived with my best friend – not in a share house, dorm room situation like he made it out.’

He added that even if those claims were true, they should never have been weaponised.

He pointed out that even if he did use coupons or had a larger household, it wouldn’t justify someone being rude to him.

‘That just makes it worse.’

Sam says that while he’s gotten used to how things unfolded, if he’d heard those comments earlier, it would have made a huge difference.

‘That’s not the Chris that I thought that I knew,’ he said.

‘And that’s not the Chris that I tried to make it work with for another week.’

‘It makes me really angry watching it back.’

At first glance, the couple seemed okay, but Sam explained that problems existed right from the start.

‘I felt like I was being spoken over quite a lot,’ he revealed.

‘If you look back at our first commitment ceremony, he talks the whole time.’

‘I remember saying, ‘Can you let me speak a bit more?’ – and he still spoke over me.’

Sam said things actually got worse, with Chris reacting defensively whenever he brought up any issues.

‘The first time I tried to speak up, it just blew up,’ he said.

‘He couldn’t see my side because he was so focused on protecting his image.’

‘It stopped being about the issue almost immediately.’

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve learned that often the most important moments don’t make the final cut. Sam shared with me that there was a really crucial conversation – a turning point, he felt – that never aired. What struck me most was his description of how, during that conversation, his own concerns were actually turned around and questioned by the other party. It’s a dynamic I see often, and it’s incredibly frustrating when those vital exchanges are left unseen.

‘He said I’d shut him down many times,’ Sam said.

‘When I asked for examples, he said he didn’t have any.’

‘You can’t just flip things like that… that’s gaslighting.’

He added: ‘He doesn’t take accountability. He just deflects.’

A significant disagreement arose between them regarding their future, specifically where they would make their home.

Sam said while he had expressed openness to relocating, it was never a mutual agreement.

‘I said I was open to moving… but we never had a conversation that I would move for him,’ he explained.

‘It became this big plan that we’d never actually discussed together.’

For Sam, everything shifted at the commitment ceremony when Chris chose to write ‘leave’.

‘I went in thinking we were both going to write stay and work on things,’ he said.

‘But as soon as I saw him write leave, I was like… what am I doing here?’

‘Why have I put so much effort into this?’

From that point on, he said the emotional connection was gone.

Okay, so everyone was losing it with all the drama this season, but honestly, Sam and Chris? They weren’t like that. It wasn’t some huge, explosive fight, you know? They didn’t just completely fall apart all at once like some of the other couples. I was so relieved, honestly. It was a slow burn, not a total implosion!

Their connection faded gradually due to ongoing problems they never addressed, like misunderstandings, people becoming defensive, and an uneven emotional dynamic.

And now, with the experiment behind him, Sam isn’t holding back.

‘I think I’ve already said too much,’ he joked.
