As a die-hard CS:GO fan and follower of the competitive scene, I can’t help but feel elated as the Esports World Cup playoffs are finally upon us! FURIA’s journey to this point has been nothing short of inspiring. Heading into their quarterfinal match against MOUZ tomorrow, they defied expectations and emerged victorious from the Ressurection Stage with a dominant performance against The MongolZ.
All quarterfinal matches are set now.
FURIA advanced to the Esports World Cup playoffs after beating The MongolZ in the Resurrection Stage on July 18.
In the final showdown between Brazil’s CS:GO team, headed by two-time Major champion Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, and The MongolZ, it wasn’t expected that the Brazilians would emerge as winners. The Mongolian team had been performing exceptionally well in recent months.
On Nuke, FURIA delivered a solid game thanks to the exceptional play of their teammate Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato. As a result, they secured a 13-9 win and earned a spot in the playoffs.
Before facing off against The MongolZ, Brazilian team members had previously defeated FlyQuest and Sashi during the competition earlier that day. Due to their loss to Natus Vincere on July 17, they advanced to the Resurrection Stage.

Following this outcome, FURIA advances to face MOUZ in the Esports World Cup quarterfinals on July 19 at 7:45 a.m. Pacific Time. The quarterfinal matches begin today with Spirit vs G2, and continue tomorrow with Vitality vs Virtus.pro, FURIA vs MOUZ, and NAVI vs FaZe Clan.
What to expect from the Esports World Cup playoffs?
At the onset of the second semester and the tier-one CS2 competition calendar, we find ourselves in the initial stages. The landscape might shift; however, a sneak peek into the Esports World Cup playoffs is as follows:
- Spirit versus G2: Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov and Nikola “NiKo” Kovač will definitely have to shine to help G2 beat Spirit as the team are still adapting after the additions of Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski and Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa during the player break. Spirit, on the other hand, are considered the best team in the world after they won the BLAST Premier Spring Final before the players went on vacation.
- Vitality versus Virtus.pro: Although Vitality are yet to win a championship in 2024 and display the same form they did in 2023, they’re consistently getting more far in tournaments than Virtus.pro, thus are the clear favorites.
- FURIA versus MOUZ: It’s hard to imagine FURIA beating MOUZ in the quarterfinals. The Brazilian team are still trying to find their groove this year, while MOUZ have already lifted trophies at ESL Pro League season 19 and BetBoom Dacha Belgrade earlier this year.
- NAVI versus FaZe: This is a bit of an unpredictable match as neither FaZe nor NAVI have played as well as they can in the past few months. FaZe enjoyed a strong start in CS2 but lost some steam, while NAVI have never really replicated the form that made them win the PGL Copenhagen Major. Anything can happen in this match.
As an esports fan, I’m thrilled to imagine myself as the triumphant victor of the World Cup. With $400,000 in winnings, I’d start the second semester in magnificent fashion, preparing for even more exhilarating competitions like IEM Cologne in August.
