Rihanna is not ‘retired,’ despite what that outfit said: ‘Wait for the I Quit T-shirt’

As a devoted fan of Rihanna for years, I’ve witnessed her evolution as an artist and a woman, both musically and personally. The recent rumors about her retirement from music and pregnancy have been circulating, fueled by her provocative fashion choices and cryptic statements. But as someone who has followed her career closely, I believe Rihanna is far from retiring.

As a film enthusiast, I’d put it this way: Although there’s been a long break between Rihanna’s album releases and her fashion choices may hint otherwise, I can assure you that she hasn’t hung up her microphone for good. And let me clarify, she’s not expecting a baby at the moment.

Last week, Rihanna and Beyoncé caused a stir online when they were spotted wearing casual T-shirt dresses with the message “I’m Retired” printed on them. Fans of these music stars, eagerly anticipating new releases from them and trying to decipher the meaning behind the statement on their clothes, began to speculate that they had both retired from making music.

Sadly, there’s more new music to come from Riri, and right now, her only announced withdrawal is from wearing extravagant outfits.

“To Extra, I explained on Monday that my peeking into the future was just a figure of speech. I’m not actually retired. The dress I’m wearing, which was given to me as a gift, is the source of my enjoyment, not my retirement.”

Further teasing her fans, the singer quipped: “Wait for the ‘I Quit’ T-shirt.”

Since the release of her last album in 2016, the singer, who is now a mother of two children born since then, has kept her fans eagerly waiting for her upcoming “R9” album. The long-anticipated album finally saw some progress in late 2022 with the debut of the Oscar-nominated ballad “Lift Me Up,” featured in the soundtrack of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” In the interim, she has remained active with various projects outside of music. These include expanding her groundbreaking Fenty Beauty cosmetics and skincare brand, launching her new Fenty Hair line, and growing her family with partner ASAP Rocky.

In May 2022 and August 2023 respectively, they had their first child, RZA Athelson Mayers, and their second child, Riot Rose Mayers (also known as the Super Bowl baby).

The singer of “We Found Love” has been vocal about her appreciation for motherhood since then. She shared with E! News that she could picture having a “lively and spirited daughter” in the future, but not right away.

“Could I regain my abs first, please?” she requested. “I’m not sure I ever had them, but the idea is appealing. May I spend one summer at Carnival?”

In an interview with “ET,” she expressed her desire to have more children in the future. However, she clarified that there is no current pregnancy by stating, “I’m not pregnant, at least for now.”

The Grammy-winning artist was more than happy to talk about one new aspect of her life – her hair. At a Fenty Hair launch party, where most of the interviews took place, she proudly displayed her natural curls and unveiled a fresh, cropped blond style.

In her speech at the event in Los Angeles on Monday (as reported by People), she shared, “As a woman and an artist, my hair has significantly influenced my journey. It mirrors my emotions. Since starting this brand, I had to keep in mind that I want to look great while ensuring my hair stays healthy. How do I achieve both? All my products must strengthen and restore my hair as I go about living my fabulous life.”
