A day after revealing his diagnosis, Don Omar says he is now cancer free

As a devoted fan of Don Omar, also known as “El Rey” of reggaeton, I was both saddened and relieved by his recent announcement that he is now cancer-free. Having grown up listening to his music and being inspired by his unwavering dedication to the genre, I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to him as an artist and as a person.

Reggaeton star Don Omar, 46, announced Tuesday that he is now cancer-free.

Today I awoke cancer-free and filled with gratitude. I appreciate your kind thoughts, prayers, and countless messages. My surgery went flawlessly, and now all that remains is my healing process. (Paraphrased version of the original Instagram post by the “Duty Love” singer in English)

On Monday, I was taken aback when I learned from Dile’s social media post that the singer himself had revealed a cancer diagnosis. He didn’t share any details about the type or stage of his condition, and unfortunately, his team hasn’t responded to my emails for comment yet. (as a fan)

“Today I’m fighting cancer, but by tomorrow I won’t be dealing with it any longer,” Don Omar shared in an Instagram post accompanied by a picture of him wearing a medical wristband from Orlando Health. “Your kindness has been appreciated. We’ll be back soon.”

Willie Omar Landrón Rivera, born in Puerto Rico and commonly known as Don Omar, proudly claims the title of “El Rey” or “The King” of reggaeton music in his compositions. He rose to prominence in 2003 with his first album, “The Last Don,” which included hits like “Dale Don Dale” and “Pobre Diabla.” His second album, “King of Kings,” released in 2006, reached the impressive position of No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart. Additionally, Don Omar has made an appearance in the popular “Fast & Furious” series, portraying the character Rico Santos who is involved in street racing.

Multiple artists and famous personalities extended their greetings on social media after the news broke out. Among them were Olga Tañon from Puerto Rico, along with her music colleagues Daddy Yankee, Ozuna, and Farruko.

“Dear precious one, you’ve fought a thousand battles and will undoubtedly prevail in this one as well,” Tañon penned down.

“Congratulations William, you’ve triumphantly overcome the mental and attitudinal challenges of your long-standing feud with me. I respect you for that. May we put our past behind us and focus on our health and wellbeing in this next phase.” – Daddy Yankee (December 2023)

As an excited fan, I’m thrilled to share that the artist has made an unexpected announcement before the upcoming leg of his Back to Reggaeton U.S. tour. This second part is set to begin in Oakland on August 7th. However, there’s some uncertainty regarding whether this tour will proceed as planned.
