Radiohead and the Smile rocker Jonny Greenwood’s infection prompts tour cancellation

As a seasoned movie buff with a deep appreciation for music and its power to bring people together, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon hearing the news that The Smile has had to cancel their Europe tour due to Jonny Greenwood’s illness. Having followed Radiohead’s illustrious career and the formation of this new trio with great anticipation, I was eagerly looking forward to witnessing their unique sound live on stage.

Jonny Greenwood, the guitarist of The Smile, had to be hospitalized due to an infection, causing the band to postpone their tour.

I was looking forward to the upcoming European tour by the dynamic trio of Radiohead members Thom York and Jonny Greenwood, along with Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner. However, it is with a heavy heart that I share some disappointing news.

“Mercifully he is now out of danger and will soon return home,” the missive said.

The band announced, “Per doctors’ orders for Jonny’s health, we regretfully cancel all upcoming shows, including the European Smile tour in August.”

In 2021, The Smile, a band that had formed earlier that year, kicked off their European tour on August 13 with a performance at Sigulda Castle in Latvia. Their itinerary included stops at various venues in Poland, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and France. The tour was scheduled to conclude on August 28 with a show at Marina Norte in Spain.

As a fan, I’ll be getting my money back from where I bought my tickets, and the band has asked for Greenwood to have a swift recuperation.
