Beautiful new images of Dragonstone and more from the 2025 Song of Ice and Fire calendar

As a devoted fan of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, I am thrilled to learn that Eddie Mendoza, a talented senior concept artist at Apple and contributor to “The Rise of the Dragon: An Illustrated History of the Targaryen Dynasty,” will be bringing his exceptional skills to the 2025 calendar. Although we no longer rely on physical calendars in today’s digital age, I can’t help but look forward to the stunning images Mendoza will create for this project.

Eddie Mendoza, a talented concept artist at Apple and an illustrator for “The Rise of the Dragon: An Illustrated History of the Targaryen Dynasty,” is set to enrich the 2025 “Song of Ice and Fire” calendar with his artistic skills. Although calendars are not as commonly used nowadays, they offer a delightful opportunity to appreciate captivating artwork, such as Mendoza’s depictions of unseen locations – like Starfall, the grand Dornish castle.

Now, fresh images have emerged from Westeros.org as a new addition. The first image of the month depicts the Wall in clear view.

As someone who has hiked through the rugged terrain of the mountains, I can’t help but be intrigued by the ominous tales of the Bridge of Skulls. This narrow passageway, precariously perched above the abyss that is the Gorge, is a sight to behold. The West side, with its steep drop-off and treacherous cliffs, has claimed many lives throughout history. It’s no wonder the bridge is named as such, with bones scattered at the bottom as grim reminders of those who didn’t make it across. And yet, despite the danger, there’s a strange allure to this place. Maybe if they added a railing or two, it would make the crossing just a little less daunting for the faint-hearted traveler like myself. But then again, isn’t the thrill of adventure what truly drives us forward?

Shifting gears to a subject he’s more comfortable with, Mendoza shared his insights about Dragonstone, which serves as the ancestral stronghold for House Targaryen and where Rhaenyra is presently hiding out on “House of the Dragon”: (This paraphrase retains the original meaning while using simpler and more natural language.)

Dragonstone is identified as a volcanic island due to the presence of dragons residing there. The reason for this association is that volcanic environments are known to provide suitable conditions for these fire-breathing creatures. However, in both “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon,” we haven’t witnessed significant lava displays yet. Nevertheless, there have been plenty of steam and smoke emanating from the island.

To conclude, Mendoza provides an exquisite description of the Water Gardens in the “Song of Ice and Fire” series and the “Game of Thrones” show, a beloved retreat for Doran Martell.

That looks like a freakishly nice place to spend the summer.

Get ready for the arrival of the “Song of Ice and Fire” calendar in July 2025, which is coming up soon! You have the opportunity to place your preorder right now.

It’s enjoyable to observe which aspects of George R.R. Martin’s rich body of work artists decide to depict. We can only imagine the abundance of characters, settings, and incidents they would have at their disposal if “The Winds of Winter” were published. Maybe one day we will witness that.
