As a movie reviewer with a soft spot for trailblazing women in comedy, I can’t help but be thrilled by Amber Ruffin‘s brave and bold decision to come out during Pride Month. Her Instagram announcement was a delightful surprise that left me cheering for this talented comedian.
Amber Ruffin is out and proud — just in time for the conclusion of Pride Month.
The comedian announced on Instagram, with no surprise expected, “I’m using PRIDE day as my coming-out moment! Be proud of your identities, dear ones. I certainly am, as shown in these photos – me wearing a ‘Queer’ shirt, footage from New York City Pride, and pictures at a Mets game with friends.”
“I can’t wait to be discriminated against for a new reason!!,” she cheekily added.
Ruffin has made a significant mark in TV comedy, with her journey starting in 2014 when she joined “Late Night With Seth Meyers” as a writer, becoming the first Black woman to do so in late-night television. She is a frequent presence on the show, gracing it with segments such as “Amber Says What?,” “A Minute of Amber’s Rage,” “Point vs. Counterpoint,” and “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell.” From 2020 to 2023, she spearheaded her own show, “The Amber Ruffin Show,” which deviated from the regular late-night talk format by emphasizing sketch comedy. This innovative approach earned her writing team nominations from the Writer’s Guild of America and Primetime Emmy Awards.
In 2023, I ended my 13-year marriage to Dutch artist Jan Schiltmeijer. The news spread online, and I was astounded by the overwhelming support I received from fellow celebrities. They reached out with kind words and encouragement.
“Hello dear newborn! The restrooms are on the left side, and you’ll find refreshments over on the right. Feel free to pick a seat. The DJ is open to playing your favorite tunes.”
I’m thrilled to announce: that’s my beloved little sister, spreading joy for Pride month!!! Alongside me, she’s penned down two compelling books about our shared experiences with racism.
“Hello Amber, welcome back home! Our group is becoming more dynamic and intelligent with each addition. Wishing you a joyful Pride month!”
“Hooray for Pride! I wish you a filled-to-the-brim heart with love and feelings of being deeply cared for.” – Tan France (Queer Eye)
