As a movie buff with a deep appreciation for the resilience and strength of people in the face of adversity, I can’t help but be moved by Sheryl Lee Ralph’s heartfelt message to her fans as she braces for Hurricane Beryl in Jamaica. Her words carry a sense of calm and determination that comes from a rich life experience.
Sheryl Lee Ralph has one request for her fans: “Pray for us you pray for others.”
On Taylor’s social media platform, she requested her followers’ encouragement on Tuesday as she readies herself for Hurricane Beryl’s approach in Jamaica. This formidable storm, which has already wreaked havoc in the Caribbean since touching down in Grenada on Monday, is known for its immense power. In a one-minute video posted on X (previously Twitter) that same evening, the Emmy Award recipient expressed her tranquil observations of the moment before the impending storm hit. Despite predictions suggesting a later arrival than anticipated, Taylor reassured, “It’s very peaceful here in Jamaica.”
“The sky is magnificently clear today, and I heard someone say the sea was as smooth as glass,” she remarked. “By the way, since we’re facing southeast, we need to bring in all our outdoor belongings – you never know when they might start to fly.”
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the actor I admire from “Moesha” and “Sister Act 2,” whose name is Ralph, is currently in Kingston, Jamaica for a special occasion. Her son Etienne Maurice, whom she shares with her ex-husband Eric Maurice, is getting married to Stephanie Wash from ABC News. In an Instagram story posted on Tuesday, Etienne expressed his hopefulness that Hurricane Beryl wouldn’t be as devastating as people feared. Additionally, he mentioned that some guests decided to cancel their travel plans for the Saturday wedding due to the potential storm.
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that “#JoyfullyMine” continues to bring me happiness. But, I’ve decided to let go and put my faith in higher powers, saying, “I’ll leave this in God’s hands.”
I have lived through my fair share of hurricanes, and let me tell you, Hurricane Beryl is no joke. As of now, at least six lives have been claimed by its destructive power. The National Hurricane Center predicts that it will begin weakening on Tuesday but will still pack a punch when it approaches Jamaica on Wednesday, the Cayman Islands on Thursday, and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula on Friday. By midmorning Wednesday, Beryl was still barreling towards Jamaica, and I can only imagine the fear and uncertainty that comes with such an impending storm. Having experienced the wrath of a hurricane firsthand, I urge everyone in the path of this storm to take all necessary precautions and heed any warnings from local authorities. Stay safe!
“Jamaica faces significant danger from various life-threatening effects brought by Hurricane Beryl. According to Jon Porter, AccuWeather’s chief meteorologist, this hurricane poses a severe risk with powerful storm surges, heavy winds, and flash flooding. He further emphasizes that Beryl may present Jamaica with its most potent and perilous hurricane challenge in many years.”
During a speech on Monday evening, Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness warned the population that they should view the approaching hurricane as a significant danger. Simultaneously, he emphasized that there was no need for undue alarm or panic.
Ralph asked people to kindly enter buildings before reminding them that Jamaica would be subject to a curfew from 6 a.m. on Wednesday. Furthermore, she advised residents in Kingston to avoid traveling on the roads and to make necessary preparations for staying sheltered during the approaching storm.
To those of you watching from the island, let’s not forget that Gilbert was a Category 3 storm and Beryl is currently a Category 4. May God protect you all, goodnight. Stay safe as we power up.
