NASCAR driver reunites with old team, first time since 2015

As a huge NASCAR fan and someone who has followed Ty Dillon’s career since his early days in the Xfinity Series, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia as I watch him prepare to return to Richard Childress Racing (RCR) for Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

I’m excited to share that starting this Sunday afternoon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard 400, I’ll be racing with my grandfather’s NASCAR Cup Series team! Driving their No. 33 Chevrolet, I can hardly wait to experience the thrill of competing on such a renowned track.

On Sunday, a 160-lap race will take place at the Indiana oval, which has four turns and spans 2.5 miles (4.023 kilometers). This event at Speedway, Indiana, is anticipated to be the genuine Brickyard 400 of 2021, as the Cup Series competed on its road course in every year from 2018 to 2020.

I, Dillon, last raced for Germain Racing at the Brickyard 400 in 2020, finishing in 14th place. It’s been a while since I drove for Richard Childress Racing at the Cup level – my last start was at Homestead-Miami Speedway back in 2015. Over the past few seasons, I made a total of seven starts for them in 2014 and 2015. Now, I’m excited to be rejoining my brother Austin and teammate Kyle Busch in RCR’s driver lineup for this upcoming race.

Ty Dillon back at Richard Childress Racing

A 32-year-old driver from Welcome, North Carolina has taken part in four Cup Series races this season for two different teams. He raced three times for Kaulig Racing and once for the newly renamed Team AmeriVet. His latest race was with Kaulig Racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the previous month.

As a longtime racing enthusiast and follower of the NASCAR Cup Series, I’m thrilled to witness the No. 33 Chevrolet making its fifth appearance this season during this upcoming race weekend. Having attended numerous races over the years and closely observing the dynamic world of stock car racing, I’ve grown fond of this sport and the constant evolution it undergoes.

Three non-permanent entries, including the No. 33 Chevrolet, have been added to the race entry list this weekend. Legacy Motor Club will increase their presence to three cars, with Jimmie Johnson driving the No. 84 Toyota for the sixth time in the season, and MBM Motorsports will make their sixth appearance of the year, bringing back the No. 66 Ford for B.J. McLeod for a second round.

Only one non-charter car participated in last weekend’s race at Pocono Raceway, specifically the No. 44 NY Racing Team Chevrolet. However, this car will not join the competition at Indianapolis.

The No. 33 Chevrolet is likely to participate in more Cup Series races this year, though the specific events have not been announced yet. Reports indicate that Hill has agreed to race in four series events, but he has only taken part in three so far.

Start a free trial with FuboTV now and catch all the excitement of the Brickyard 400 live from Indianapolis Motor Speedway, airing on NBC starting at 2:30 p.m. ET this coming Sunday, July 21. This is the first NASCAR Cup Series race at Indy’s oval in the last four years, so don’t miss out!
