GoldenEye and Perfect Dark Artist Brett Jones Has Died

As a massive fan of the iconic games, GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark, I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Brett Jones. His contributions to these groundbreaking titles were absolutely pivotal, shaping the visual aesthetic that made both games so special.

I’m sorry for this unfortunate news. I used to be utterly wowed by the stunning artwork in games like GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark, created by none other than Brett Jones. Sadly, it is with a heavy heart that I share the news of his passing.

Jones contributed to various aspects of creating the visual appeal for both games. From designing characters to constructing environments, and producing background art and user interface, his work significantly shaped their overall appearance.

On Twitter, the lead designer of GoldenEye, David Doak, announced the news and honored Jones’s contributions to the project.

I’m deeply saddened to share the news that Brett Jones, the legendary gamer behind GE007 and PD, is no longer with us. His unique blend of skill and mischievous wit brought so much joy to our gaming community. Rest in peace, Brett. Your presence will be deeply missed.

In addition to creating art for both games, Jones took the lead on motion capture for several characters and provided voiceovers as well.

He played a significant role in creating Joanna Dark’s character for the game Perfect Dark. It’s worth mentioning that a new installment in this series, which was originally released over 18 years ago, is currently anticipated.

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince;
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
