Is the door closed for Star Trek: Legacy, or is there still a chance for the sequel?

As a long-time Star Trek fan and avid gamer, I have been eagerly anticipating the continuation of the Star Trek: Picard storyline with Jeri Ryan’s Seven of Nine taking the helm as captain of the Enterprise in the proposed series, Star Trek: Legacy. The idea has garnered widespread support from fans and the casting of familiar faces from The Next Generation only added to the excitement.

As a passionate Star Trek: Picard fan and gamer, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the continuation of the story since Seven of Nine took over as captain of the Enterprise in the series finale. Star Trek: Legacy, as proposed by showrunner Terry Matalas, sounds like an exciting next chapter for both The Next Generation legends and the Picard cast.

In a conversation with Screenrant, Todd Stashwick, who portrayed Captain Liam Shaw on Picard, was questioned about the possibility of “Legacy” eventuating in reality. With a hint of uncertainty, Stashwick expressed that he couldn’t say for sure but believes “there’s always a chance.”

I don’t have a crystal ball. I know that David Ellison is a good man. He is the Skydance [CEO]… I don’t know. I think he’s a Star Trek fan. Uh, I don’t know. That would be a question for them. I think there’s always a chance that they could do a Legacy. It’s just not gonna happen this year [and] probably not next year. Terry Matalas is tied up doing other stuff. So they’d probably have to wait til he’s available. So I don’t have an answer for you.

As a dedicated Star Trek gamer, I’ve been following the franchise closely, and I’m thrilled that David Ellison served as executive producer for both Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond. His involvement could be a promising sign for the future of this beloved series. However, it all boils down to what productions Skydance and Paramount+ will create to generate the maximum revenue.

From a gamer’s perspective, I can’t completely rule out the prospect of a new Legacy series, but it seems heavily leaned towards that direction, which is disappointing given the potential the series holds. However, fans’ unwavering dedication might justify this risk. Regardless, if we don’t get a go-ahead for Legacy at some point in the future, some of us may lose interest in a franchise that doesn’t prioritize our desires.
