Following the death of Nicholas Brendon, who played Xander Harris on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar and other members of the show’s cast have been sharing heartfelt messages.
Brendon’s family announced that he died peacefully in his sleep from natural causes. They shared that he was widely known as an actor and remembered for the memorable characters he played.
Nicky recently discovered a love for painting and art. He enjoyed sharing his creative talent with those around him – his family, friends, and followers. He approached his work with passion, sensitivity, and unwavering dedication.
The family shared that Brendon had faced past challenges and was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect in 2022. They noted he was hopeful about the future when he died and asked for privacy during this difficult time.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Buffy Summers, posted a throwback photo on Instagram with a quote from the show. The quote, originally said by Xander to Buffy’s sister Dawn, reflects on the difficulty of always being on the sidelines: ‘They’ll never know how tough it is to be the one who isn’t chosen, to live so close to the spotlight but never be in it.’

She added: “I saw you Nicky. I know you are at peace, in that big rocking chair in the sky.”
Emma Caulfield, best known as Anya Jenkins from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, posted a video of her and James Marsters singing ‘I’ll Never Tell’ from the show’s musical episode to her Instagram account.
She wrote, “I’m deeply saddened and still processing everything. For now, let this video of us together be a reminder of the joy we shared. Rest in peace, Nicky. I love you.”
Alyson Hannigan, best known for playing Willow Rosenberg on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, shared a photo on Instagram of her character receiving a hug from Xander in the show’s final episode. This scene occurs when Willow prevents a global catastrophe.
She wrote a touching message to her beloved Nicky, expressing gratitude for the years of joy, affection, and shared love of the Dodgers. She said she’ll always remember him whenever she sees a rocking chair, and finished with a heartfelt ‘I love you. Rest in peace.’
It’s been so sad hearing about Nicholas Brendon. David Boreanaz, who played Angel, shared a really touching thought – he said there’s a difference between coworkers and people you truly connect with, and Nick was definitely the latter. And J. August Richards, Charles Gunn on the show, said he got to see just how much love Nick had from fans all over the world. It’s just amazing to see how many people he touched.
Last year, fellow Buffy star Michelle Trachtenberg passed away at the age of 39.
