Farrel Hagerty has announced her departure from Coronation Street, confirming she has already finished filming her scenes.
The actor playing Lou Michaelis joined the ITV soap opera in February of last year, left in July after a few months, and is scheduled to return in January 2026.
She recently told the Girlfriend Material podcast that she’s leaving the show once more, not long after rejoining earlier in the year.
The actress, who appears on ITV, has left the show and finished filming. She returned to ‘Coronation Street’ for a brief period.
I spent six months on the show, but I returned because my character was sent to prison. She’s portrayed as someone who isn’t well-behaved.
Back in April last year it was revealed that Farrel was leaving her role on the ITV soap.
The announcement of Farrel’s departure followed reports from Daily Mail that Joe Layton, who plays Mick, Lou’s husband on the show, had also been let go.
I’m really sad to hear this, but a source has confirmed that she and Joe will both be leaving the show. Apparently, they were brought in as a couple and the storyline will see them leave together, as a couple too. It’s a shame, I really enjoyed them!
Fans were excited about their potential long-term involvement, but it looks like they’ll only be staying for the originally planned duration.
A Coronation Street representative told the publication that Mick and Lou were introduced to stir up trouble and set the stage for a big story this summer, and they’re already having an impact.
The spokesperson explained that they were hired for a set period and their role was to dismantle things quickly, leaving significant changes in their wake.
Both actors are continuing to film and will appear in episodes airing through the summer.
The Sun reports that Joe and Farrel will film their last scenes next month, marking their departure from the show.
Further details surrounding their exit are expected to be revealed in due course.
Lou’s boisterous and outgoing nature quickly reminded viewers of Janice Battersby from the show ‘Cobbles,’ played by Vicky Entwistle. However, a lot of fans wanted the character written off the show.
Honestly, even before we found out they were leaving, I thought these two were the most irritating characters ever written for the show. I just couldn’t connect with them at all!
A viewer strongly criticized the show, calling the characters “absolutely dreadful” and poorly written. They complained that the characters lacked both evil intent and any positive traits, making the show completely unenjoyable and “awful.”
These new characters are possibly the worst I’ve ever seen on Coronation Street, and they really highlight how much the show has declined in recent years.
Lou first appeared on the street after becoming friends with Gemma Winter Brown, who is played by Dolly-Rose Campbell.
She and Mick (Joe) then moved into a house on the opposite side of the alleyway – a first for that side of Coronation Street, as no one had ever lived there before.
This news follows reports last week that Joe was also leaving his position on the popular ITV show.
According to a source at The Mirror, Mick Carter will still be featured on the show until late July, and there are plenty more storylines planned for his character.
After landing the role, Joe explained that it was a dream come true to join the ITV show.
He expressed his excitement about joining Coronation Street, calling the show a British television landmark and saying it’s a dream come true to play the role of Mick.
Working with Farrel is fantastic – we’re really enjoying ourselves and building a strong connection while developing our characters.
It’s a chance to see how Coronation Street is made and be part of the team, working with people who are passionate about what they do.
‘It’s just a really happy place, friendly and welcoming. I’m going to relish every moment of it.’
Joe previously shared that he was thrilled to play a complex and engaging villain.
I love playing characters considered villains. What fascinates me most is exploring how we overcome our initial impressions of them, particularly when I’m preparing to portray them.
When you play a character, it’s important to connect with them – to find something to like, understand their feelings, and see things from their perspective.
I always try to understand a character’s motivations and perspective – to really see the world through their eyes and figure out why they act the way they do.
I always enjoy playing characters, and it’s particularly fulfilling when they’re emotionally and mentally complex.
It’s been fantastic working with Sam and Dolly-Rose. As I mentioned before, everyone at Coronation Street has been incredibly welcoming, and the Winter-Brown family is truly iconic!
Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
