Apex Legends players are review-bombing the game over new battle pass

As a dedicated fan of Apex Legends with countless hours poured into this exhilarating battle royale game since its launch in 2019, I’m deeply disappointed and frustrated by Respawn Entertainment’s recent decision to overhaul the battle pass system. The community’s reaction has been nothing short of furious, and for good reason.

Last week, I was thrilled as a big fan of Apex Legends, when Respawn Entertainment announced exciting changes to their battle pass system, marking the beginning of season 22 in early August. However, my excitement quickly turned sour as the player community’s reaction was far from positive. To put it mildly, I’ve seen players express intense frustration and disappointment with this update, which has unfortunately led to a wave of negative reviews on Steam.

As an avid fan of Apex Legends, I’ve noticed a significant shift in player sentiment towards the game lately. The community’s frustration reached an all-time high with over 24,000 negative reviews posted during the first half of July. So, what’s causing this uproar?

In its blog post, Respawn mentioned that players have the opportunity to collect “double the Battle Pass rewards throughout the entire season by finishing both Battle Passes.” However, this doesn’t seem to impress players as they perceive it as an unnecessary additional cost. Gamers who have invested heavily in “Apex Legends,” with hundreds or even thousands of hours played, are sharing their discontent through Steam reviews: “The removal of purchasing the Battlepass with coins is unacceptable. I refuse to play this game again,” one review stated. Another player, who has nearly 700 hours in “Apex Legends,” questioned: “Seriously, with this decision? I have to pay every 45 days $10?”

“As a dedicated gamer with over 2000 hours invested in Apex, I’ve never skipped a single season since season 4. But if Respawn doesn’t reconsider their decision, I’m afraid this might be my last hurrah in Apex. It’s disheartening to consider uninstalling the game I’ve grown so fond of.”

Certainly, the difficulties with “Battlefield V” rewards aren’t the only challenges that “Apex Legends” Global Series is facing. Recently, ESL FACEIT Group, responsible for processing payments for the event, revealed that a “systems error” led to inaccurate prize distributions amounting to over $100,000. They are presently addressing the issue. In March, the North American finals for “Apex Legends” were delayed due to a hacker who injected cheating tools like aim bots into the tournament games.

As a long-time fan of battle royale games, I’ve been following the success story of Apex Legends since its release in 2019. Being a free-to-play game, I’ve always admired Respawn’s business model, making most of their revenue through battle passes and other purchasable cosmetic items like skins. The game has been nothing short of a financial triumph for Electronic Arts (EA), generating an impressive $3.4 billion in lifetime net bookings according to the latest earnings report.
