Is that Silvering in the trailer for House of the Dragon Episode 206? (Silvering explained)

As a devoted fan of “House of the Dragon,” I am absolutely thrilled about the latest developments in the show’s second season. The recent episode, “Regent,” brought us closer to Team Black as they faced a major setback with the loss of their largest dragon, Meleys the Red Queen. However, Rhaenyra Targaryen and her son Jace are not giving up hope. They have the opportunity to bring on more dragonriders from among the unclaimed dragons living on Dragonstone.

In simple terms, the second season of “House of the Dragon” is venturing into uncharted grounds. In this week’s episode, titled “Regent,” Ewan Mitchell portrays Aemond Targaryen who assumes a pivotal role in Team Green’s leadership. On the other hand, Emma D’Arcy’s character, Rhaenyra Targaryan, faces challenges as Team Black suffers significant losses and their most formidable dragon, Meleys the Red Queen, is no longer an option due to her size. They lack a large enough dragon to counteract Aemond’s Vhagar.

Perhaps they ponder the idea of recruiting additional dragonriders; Rhaenyra and her son Jace (Harry Collett) do, as Dragonstone hosts several untamed or unclaimed dragons. Couldn’t there be Targaryen descendants on the island who could potentially ride one of these dragons?

Two dragons residing at Dragonstone without an owner, Vermithor and Silverwing, are substantial in size and capable of confronting Vhagar directly. These two ancient beings have existed for almost a century, making them the eldest dragons apart from Vhagar herself. In “Regent,” Rhaenyra and Jace referenced both Vermithor and Silverwing, implying they dwell in Dragonstone’s caverns. So, it seems likely that we may encounter these dragons in “House of the Dragon” soon.

Who are Vermithor and Silvering? The history of Team Black’s largest dragons explained

Among the dragons in “House of the Dragon,” Vermithor and Silverwing share an intricately connected past. These dragons were born from eggs placed by their former riders: Jaehaerys the Wise and his wife Alysanne Targaryen. Jaehaerys and Alysanne, both long-lived individuals, rode these dragons for many decades. After their demises, Silverwing and Vermithor have resided on Dragonstone, unridden.

I’ve been captivated by the appearance of Vermithor so far in “House of the Dragon.” In the season 1 finale, “The Black Queen,” he made a grand entrance as the massive bronze dragon Daemon sang to. Known as The Bronze Fury, Vermithor is the second largest dragon in the realm, surpassed only by Vhagar in size.

I’ve come across some amazing dragons in my gaming experience, and Queen Alysanne’s Silverwing is one of them. Though she was known for her calmer demeanor compared to Vermithor, don’t underestimate her strength. Queen Alysanne and Silverwing embarked on an epic journey together, riding all the way to the Wall – a feat referenced in “A Song of Ice and Fire” by Bran Stark and Samwell Tarly, as well as in the “House of the Dragon” season 2 premiere by Cregar Stark.

Although Silverwing isn’t as big as Vermithor, she’s significantly larger than any other dragon in Team Black. Consequently, she should not be underestimated. With Rhaenyra and Jace now considering these unridden dragons for war, there’s a strong possibility that we’ll see Silverwing featured in Episode 206.

We’ve learned that more dragons are expected to appear next week based on the trailer for the upcoming episode, released following “Regent.” In this preview, Rhaenyra Targaryen and a band of dragon handlers encounter a large gray dragon. The dragon’s identity has become a topic of discussion: could it be Silverwing?

With full confidence, we can assert that the gray dragon ridden by Rhaenyra’s initial spouse Laenor Velaryon is named Seasmoke. This information is derived from the fact that similar footage of this dragon was showcased in the Team Black and Team Green trailers released by HBO in March. As confirmed by showrunner Ryan Condal to Entertainment Weekly, it is indeed Seasmoke. The dragon’s appearance may seem slightly altered; however, Condal explains that Seasmoke has aged since his last appearance in the Stepstones, resulting in his growth and maturation.

As a longtime fan of George R.R. Martin’s intricate and captivating world of Westeros, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard that Silverwing, the legendary dragon, would make an appearance in “Fire & Blood,” the latest addition to the A Song of Ice and Fire series. Having read through the pages of this magnificent book, I can confidently say that Silverwing indeed gets another rider during the pivotal event called the Sowing of the Seeds.

Just three more episodes are left in the second run of “House of the Dragon,” which is broadcast every Sunday night on both HBO and HBO Max.
