John Krasinski Could Break A Harrison Ford Movie Record

John Krasinski might become the actor to play Jack Ryan in the most films, surpassing Harrison Ford’s record. While the Jack Ryan series hasn’t had as many movies as James Bond, several actors have taken on the role of Tom Clancy’s character, including Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine.

John Krasinski played Jack Ryan in all four seasons of the Prime Video series. Many viewers thought his time as the CIA agent was over after the show ended, but the new movie, Jack Ryan: Ghost War, shows he’s continuing in the role.

A Movie Franchise Could See John Krasinski Breaking Harrison Ford’s Two-Movie Streak As Jack Ryan

There’s a lot of excitement for the upcoming series Ghost War, which premieres on May 20, 2026, and it’s expected to be a success for Prime Video. If it is, the character Jack Ryan could expand into a series of films, potentially bringing John Krasinski back to reprise his role. Krasinski could even surpass Harrison Ford’s record and play Jack Ryan in more than two movies.

Harrison Ford replaced Alec Baldwin as Jack Ryan, starring in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger (1994). He was originally scheduled to return for The Sum of All Fears, but he left the project because he didn’t like the script. This led Paramount Pictures to choose a younger actor, Ben Affleck, to take on the role instead.

Because the movies frequently changed actors playing Ryan, none of them—except Harrison Ford—really made the character their own. Now that the show is over, Krasinski has a solid understanding of how to play Ryan, which will help him with Ghost War. A film series could also allow for significant character development.

The series could expand in many exciting ways. For example, Ryan could team up with John Clark (played by Michael B. Jordan in Without Remorse), or even become President, as he does in later Jack Ryan novels. With so many possibilities, it seems realistic that Krasinski could star in at least three Jack Ryan movies.

Even though John Krasinski gave a strong performance in the war film 13 Hours, many viewers still primarily knew him as Jim from The Office when he started playing Jack Ryan. Now, many consider Jack Ryan to be Krasinski’s most defining role, and he’s expected to continue playing the character for quite some time.

While Harrison Ford is still strongly associated with Jack Ryan for many fans, John Krasinski has now played the character for eight years – appearing in 30 episodes and a film – and has a lot more story to tell. This could eventually lead people to think of Krasinski when they picture Jack Ryan.

However, all of this hinges on how well Jack Ryan: Ghost War performs. Without Remorse was originally intended to launch its own film series, but it quickly faded into obscurity. If the new movie doesn’t generate excitement for future Jack Ryan adventures starring John Krasinski, Ghost War could end up being a standalone film with no sequels.
