Twisters director had no idea about Tom Cruise’s premiere appearance
As a long-time gamer and movie enthusiast, I was completely taken aback by the surprise appearance of Tom Cruise at the London premiere of “Twisters.” I had no idea he was going to be there, and it added an unexpected excitement to the event. The director, Lee Isaac Chung, also shared that he was unaware of Cruise’s arrival, making the moment all the more authentic and heartwarming.
Lee Isaac Chung, the director of “Twisters,” shared that he was unaware of Tom Cruise’s unexpected cameo at the film’s premiere.
Last week on July 8, without prior notice, the actor dropped by the London premiere of “Top Gun: Maverick” in Leicester Square to show his backing for his previous costar, Glen Powell.
Fans were just as thrilled when Tom Cruise posted on Instagram a picture of him and Powell grinning in a movie theater, surrounded by popcorn. The caption said, “Great evening out with pals, catching a film!”
In an interview for the “Inside Total Film” podcast, Chung shared that he was equally surprised along with everyone else when Tom Cruise made his appearance.
“I wasn’t anticipating his presence,” he remarked. “But he turned out to be quite pleasant. He greeted me prior to the movie screenings, allowing for a friendly exchange between us.”
In the instant we were backstage, I could clearly sense the depth of his feelings for Glen. Their friendship appeared genuine and heartfelt, making that moment between them truly captivating to observe.
The director continued by sharing that he couldn’t help but keep my focus on Tom throughout the film, as I found myself intrigued by his reactions. I observed him regularly lean forward and reach out to touch someone.
In surprise, I asked, “Who is that?” only to discover later that he was gently patting Anthony Ramos in several instances. This small gesture left me with a heartfelt feeling.
Chung stated, “He showed tremendous support and affection towards his co-actors, genuinely recognizing their efforts. It was truly impressive.”
In simple terms, “Twisters” is an independent continuation of the ’90s hit movie “Twister.” It features Bill Paxton and Daisy Edgar-Jones portraying competing storm trackers. Their paths intersect as they confront numerous storm formations, resulting in a battle for survival.
In addition to the stars of “In the Heights” and “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” as well as Daryl McCormack from “Peaky Blinders” and Brandon Perea from “Nope,” this film boasts the talents of David Corenswet, known for his role in “Superman,” and Katy O’Brian and Maura Tierney, who have previously acted in “Love Lies Bleeding.”
After being well-received in London, Twisters garnered positive feedback from critics. Our team at Digital Spy was particularly impressed by the movie’s “grandiose and exhilarating special effects.”
Twisters will premiere in cinemas on Friday, July 19.
