Greg James recovers from incredible 1000km Comic Relief bike challenge with a soak in a bath LIVE on BBC Breakfast – after raising £4million for charity

Greg James successfully completed a 1,000km bike ride on Friday and raised an amazing £4 million for Comic Relief.

Greg James, the host of Radio 1’s Breakfast Show, recently completed an eight-day bike ride. The 40-year-old rode a tandem bike and was happily surprised by appearances from family, friends, and even Prince William along the route.

The day after his incredible accomplishment, Greg celebrated by appearing on BBC Breakfast – live from his bathtub!

Greg surprised the presenters by joining their live broadcast from his bubble bath, his head emerging from a pile of suds as he confessed he was truly amazed.

He described feeling a bit disoriented but in a positive way, explaining that he was still processing everything after the challenge and trying to regain his composure.

Greg’s father, Alan, was unable to attend the event at Murrayfield Stadium to watch his son finish the race. He recently had a stroke during a scheduled heart procedure.

However, the Radio 1 DJ revealed he will be seeing his father very soon.

He expressed his happiness at being back home and mentioned he’d visit his father soon. His father had been following his journey and was thrilled with his accomplishment.

The total amount raised was announced on Friday’s Comic Relief show after Greg completed his incredible 1000km bike ride.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I was watching the telethon, and Greg was on with Davina McCall! He said it was insane – his fundraising just totally snowballed! And get this – Coldplay actually made a massive donation! I almost died, seriously! It was the best moment ever, and I’m so proud of him for doing so much for charity. I’m still buzzing!

Oh my gosh, you wouldn’t BELIEVE how amazing ‘Take Yourself Funny for Money’ was! So many of my absolute favorite celebrities were on there, doing these hilarious sketches and challenges. It was just non-stop fun, and I seriously couldn’t get enough! I’ve watched it like, five times already!

The crowd erupted, chanting Greg’s name, when it was announced live on air that his fundraising challenge had brought in an incredible £4,225,939.

He told Davina he was really glad to be there, but also very confused. He explained that he’d woken up near the Scottish border, cycled to Edinburgh, and somehow ended up in Salford.

Greg went on to explain that someone yelled instructions at him to pull into the parking lot, and Prince William was standing there waiting.

It was all very hush-hush, and he just showed up. I remember asking him if he had brought his own motorcycle, and he casually said he was riding on mine! I’ve honestly never gripped the handlebars so tightly in my life – it was a truly nerve-wracking moment!

Honestly, it was a really scary moment! I keep thinking about how things could have gone so wrong if he’d taken a tumble – it could have been disastrous, not just for me, but potentially for the whole Comic Relief event. It all happened so quickly, one thing led to another, and then Coldplay stepped up with an incredible donation of £100,000. It really took off from there!

You know, there’s nothing quite like that feeling of complete exhaustion after a really tough climb, and then reaching the top to be greeted by a heartwarming scene. I’m picturing it now – legs burning, finally cresting the hill, and then seeing a whole school of kids and some friendly farmers waiting there. It’s a beautiful reminder that the reward is often worth the effort, and that community is waiting to share in your accomplishment. It’s those unexpected, joyful moments that really make life special.

‘This thing has really captured people’s imagination. It was a hard thing we did, but a fun thing.’

With the crowd chanting, Greg said, “This is making me uncomfortable, please stop. I really don’t like this.”

I told everyone when I finished my work today that I’d received enough praise for this. It was a bit of a silly idea to try and raise money and awareness for the wonderful charities Comic Relief supports, but there’s one more thing I want to say.

If you give people excessive attention, like they’re a famous person cycling right by, it’s overwhelming and I need you to stop directing it at me!

Red Nose Day raises money for organizations that support people facing issues like homelessness, poverty, and mental health, both in the UK and around the globe.

I was absolutely thrilled to hear that Greg reached £2.8 million in donations for his incredible challenge! He was so close to finishing, just a few miles from Edinburgh, and let out a huge shout of joy when he found out. It was a really amazing moment.

On Friday morning, he began the last leg of his cycling journey from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders, having already raised £2.5 million.

A little over an hour into his ride, Greg stopped for a break in North Middleton, Midlothian, only 16 miles from Edinburgh, where he was headed.

While taking a break during the event, Greg chatted with radio personality Matt Edmonson, who announced that the fundraising total had reached £2,823,694.

I was absolutely thrilled when Greg announced we’d hit 2.8 million! He practically shouted it – ‘2.8 million!! YESSS!’ – and then just seemed amazed at how quickly things were growing. He said it was crazy, but in a really fun way. It just goes to show, sometimes the most ridiculous things are the best, right?

Let’s continue this playful activity and aim for three rounds. We’re doing this in honor of Arthur, and to make him comfortable in his chair.

Greg started the segment by saying he’d requested a large, playful donation be made to Comic Relief at the end of the day. He then asked how much money they had raised so far and encouraged them to check.

‘Okay so when we last had a total it was £2.5million, which is crazy,’ Matt said.

Matt continued, saying, ‘We’ve only been broadcasting for just over an hour. Let’s see what our current total is…’

Greg excitedly shouted when he saw the full amount of £2.8 million, then got ready to complete the course.
