Sarah Michelle Gellar pays tribute to late Shannen Doherty

As a dedicated gamer and long-time fan of both television and film, I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Shannen Doherty. Her impact on the entertainment industry, particularly in the realm of supernatural series like “Charmed” and teen dramas like “Beverly Hills, 90210,” was significant and left a lasting impression on me and countless others.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, famed actor from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” has expressed condolences for the passing of her dear friend Shannen Doherty at the age of 53.

Doherty passed away on Sunday (July 14) following a nine-year battle with breast cancer.

In 2017, the actor shared good news that she was in remission from cancer. However, sad news followed in 2020 when she revealed that her cancer had come back and advanced to stage 4. Last June, Doherty disclosed that the cancer had spread even further, with scans revealing the presence of metastasis in her brain.

On July 15, Monday, Geller paid tribute to her longtime friend on Instagram by sharing a collection of pictures featuring them.

“Finding the appropriate words to encapsulate three decades of friendship is quite a challenge. I’m trying to remember that the pain is only this intense because there was an abundance of love involved.”

Based on my personal perspective, I believe that the memories and experiences we share with loved ones hold immense value and meaning in our lives. When someone we care about passes away, it can be incredibly healing to honor their memory by reflecting on the impact they had on us. In this specific situation, I’m grateful for all the heartfelt messages expressing how much @theshando meant to each of you. Let’s keep her spirit alive by continuing to share stories, memories, and love in her honor.

If Shan held a deep affection for animals, particularly dogs, let’s honor her memory by giving back to her preferred animal charities. We can make a difference through various means – monetary donations, visiting local shelters to provide love and care for the animals residing there, or even spreading awareness by tagging charities in social media comments.

“That would certainly bring joy to our girl (and make her laugh deeply from the chest, as we fondly remember),” Gellar remarked, followed by a string of broken heart emoticons.

Doherty gained fame for portraying Prue Halliwell in the supernatural show “Charmed.” Additionally, she became recognized for her performance as Brenda Walsh on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” and its related series.

I have come across many announcements of celebrity deaths throughout my years working in media, but this one particularly touched me due to its heartfelt and personal tone. The statement from Leslie Sloane, the publicist, beautifully encapsulated the woman’s relationship with her family and loved ones. The mention of her being surrounded by them, including her cherished dog Bowie, at the time of her passing added a poignant touch to the announcement. It was a reminder that even those who lead public lives are ultimately human beings with deep connections to their loved ones.

Following the sad news, several of Doherty’s former co-stars shared tributes honouring her memory.

Alyssa Milano from “Charmed,” spoke out saying, “Shannen and I had our challenges, but beneath it all, I held great admiration for her. She was an exceptional actress and adored by countless fans. Our world is poorer without her. My heart goes out to those who cherished her.”

Jason Priestley, who acted as Doherty’s brother on “90210,” expressed his shock and sadness upon learning of Shannen’s passing. He considered her a dear friend.

“He commented, ‘She had the power and intensity of nature; I’ll deeply mourn her loss. Wishing comfort and healing rays to her dear ones during these difficult days.’ “
