Following the start of the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran in February, many social media influencers and reality TV personalities have been promoting Dubai as a safe haven as the surrounding area becomes increasingly unstable.
As a lifestyle expert who’s spent a lot of time in the UAE, I was shocked to learn what happened when the attacks began. Apparently, authorities sent out urgent texts to Westerners – hundreds of thousands of people! – specifically asking them not to post anything online about what was happening. The message was clear: they didn’t want anything shared that could ‘incite panic,’ essentially a request to stay silent about the unfolding events. It was a really unsettling situation, and a clear indication of how seriously they were taking the crisis.
Honestly, it’s been so stressful watching everything unfold! There are so many influencers living there, and it’s impossible to get a read on how they’re really feeling. But lately, I’ve noticed tons of them rushing to get out, just trying to stay safe, and it’s really worrying to see.
Honestly, even though they said they felt safe with the Dubai government doing everything possible to keep people protected, so many of my fellow expats just couldn’t shake the feeling and booked flights home to the UK. It broke my heart to see them go, but I get it – peace of mind is everything, right? I’m staying, though! I trust them completely.
Celebrities used to flock to this place because of its tax benefits and safety, but it’s not living up to those expectations anymore.
With the current conflict happening, who has left Dubai, and who is still claiming things are normal despite the growing chaos in the area?
FLED
Kate and Rio Ferdinand
Rio and Kate Ferdinand came back to the UK this month after living in Dubai since last summer.
Okay, so Rio had to be back in London, you know, for his podcast, ‘Rio Ferdinand Presents’ – it’s amazing, honestly! But Kate, bless her, really wanted to be with her family for Mother’s Day. It was just a tricky situation with them being pulled in two different directions, but I totally get both sides! It’s all about family, right?
The family relocated to Dubai with Tia, the footballer’s 13-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, along with their two younger children: five-year-old Cree and two-year-old Shae.
However, his two eldest sons Lorenz, 19, and Tate, 17, remained in the UK.
The reality TV star has been enjoying her time in the UAE, but she’s also feeling homesick. She admits to getting upset and really missing her family and close friends, and it’s been a difficult adjustment.
Look, I totally get why my sons are chasing their football dreams – it’s amazing! Honestly, it’s a little bittersweet, but I’m so proud they’re doing what they want. It’s just… things are so good here for my younger kids, we’ve really built a life, and it feels right for us. If they weren’t pursuing their careers, they’d absolutely be here with the family, I know it. But this is their path, and I support them 100%.
It’s really difficult because we’re a close-knit family and have always relied on each other, so this change is a big challenge.
However, this month she made a U-turn on her comments.
Kate described what it’s like living in Dubai during Ramadan, explaining that her kids have shorter school days. They start at 8:45am and are picked up at 1pm, effectively attending school for only half the day.
I find the constant change really refreshing and surprisingly peaceful. Though, things definitely get more hectic when the kids return after lunch – it’s a completely new experience for me.
Living in a place with diverse religions and cultures is a really enriching experience. You learn and grow so much just by being around different perspectives.
As a parent, one of the things I appreciate most about raising my kids in Dubai is the immersive cultural experience. They’re not just learning about different ways of life – they’re actually living them. While they might encounter these things academically back home, Dubai offers a chance to truly be part of a different culture, and that’s something I find incredibly valuable.
Luisa Zissman
Luisa Zissman, known from The Apprentice and a public supporter of the Dubai government, has returned to the UK with her children for work commitments.
When trouble started in Dubai earlier this month, Luisa quickly told her followers that she was in a very safe place and everything was okay. She then returned to the UK and her large, expensive home in the countryside.
Luisa claimed her return was pre-arranged, but she described herself as going through a difficult time, calling it her ‘refugee era.’ She recently shared that her dog, Crumble, is currently stranded in Dubai, which prompted her to ask for a temporary companion. Unfortunately, she then discovered her flight to retrieve him had been cancelled.
She shared a picture of her dog, Crumble, wearing a soldier’s uniform, explaining he wasn’t able to travel with her on a private jet – again. While he’s currently safe and well cared for, she expressed her sadness at being separated from him and how much she wants him with her.
Even though Luisa claimed Dubai was safe, she returned to her large, historic manor house in Hertfordshire, which included 2.8 acres of land, as the city faced devastation.
When in Britain, she lives with her husband, Andrew Collins, who is an Irish millionaire, and their two daughters, Indigo, age nine, and Clementine, age seven.
Her eldest daughter Dixie, 15, remains in the UK while attending boarding school.
Since December, when she moved to Dubai, Luisa has consistently used social media to express her strong support for the UAE, even during the recent 12 days of Iranian missile attacks that resulted in six deaths and over 120 injuries.
As a lifestyle expert who’s closely followed events there, I remember right at the beginning of the trouble, she was adamant that the country remained incredibly safe, even as you could hear explosions in the city and Dubai International Airport actually had to close briefly due to a drone strike. It was a really unsettling time, but she maintained that sense of security for residents and visitors.
She reassured her followers that even though she’d prepared for emergencies by stocking her basement, she believed the country’s defenses would protect people. She also stated that things were generally okay, and that life felt normal for her personally.
She also shared that they had a lovely, ordinary day, starting with a late breakfast or early lunch with friends.
A friend of mine is currently unable to return from England, so her husband and children have been staying with us for the past couple of days while they wait for things to improve.
It was pretty loud last night, but things are relatively calm right now. The main problem is the uncertainty about what will happen next and how long it will last.
Even though she claimed she wasn’t returning, she was back in Britain a few days later. She left Oman, having traveled over the border by land.
Katie Price and Lee Andrews
Katie traveled to Dubai this week to be with her husband, Lee. There are rumors that Lee is not allowed to leave the United Arab Emirates.
Katie’s fourth husband, Lee, is facing accusations of being a fraudster. He’s also been publicly claiming to be a wealthy businessman and even suggests he has connections to Elon Musk.
Katie was overjoyed to have a private flight back home to be with him.
I was alone in the cabin, with only two flight attendants visible in the distance.
Okay, let me paint a picture for you. I was chatting with Katie, a mom of five, the other day, and she just looked good. She was standing in her cozy cabin, rocking a simple white tank top and black Nike leggings, and honestly? She was beaming with confidence. It was such a relatable, comfortable-chic look, and she clearly felt fantastic in it.
She expressed her disbelief and excitement about having the entire cabin to herself, excitedly announcing she was on her way to Dubai to reunite with her husband. She shared her enthusiasm with the hashtags #KatiePrice, #comingformyhubby, and #excited.
Okay, so I’m obsessed with planning my trip to the UAE, right? But I just checked the UK government’s travel advice, and honestly, it’s a bit worrying. They’re basically saying you shouldn’t go unless it’s really important. Like, essential travel only! It’s a total bummer, because I’ve been dreaming of this for ages, but I need to take their warning seriously. It’s making me rethink everything, but I’m still hoping I can find a way to go safely!
Moreover, your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against advice from the FCDO.
Lee, age 42, continues to say he feels secure in the UAE and doesn’t intend to leave.
A British man named Lee reportedly spent three weeks in a Dubai jail after being accused of fraudulently obtaining a £200,000 loan using his ex-girlfriend’s signature. He is now prohibited from leaving the United Arab Emirates.
He denies this, but as yet, does not appear to have left the country since meeting Katie.
Laura Anderson
Laura, 36, was relieved to get a flight from Dubai to Edinburgh and expressed hope for safe travel, given the worsening situation in the Middle East.
Earlier this month, the former Love Island contestant announced on Instagram that she and her two-year-old daughter, Bonnie, had successfully flown out of the UAE.
Laura had only touched down in Dubai last Friday to visit her sister.
She shared a photo of her plane just before takeoff, explaining she was starting her journey but taking things one step at a time. The airport was peaceful and not crowded, and she was touched by how kind and helpful everyone was, which almost made her cry.
I always say a little prayer for a safe flight, and it feels especially important right now. Everyone on the plane seems quiet, probably a bit nervous like me. Luckily, my dad’s favorite song is playing, which is lifting my spirits.
I’m grateful to the UAE government for the safety and security they’ve provided to me and my loved ones. I’m proud to have lived and worked as an expat there.
Laura is now back in Scotland with her mother and daughter, where she spent Mother’s Day on Sunday.
I was so happy to see Laura back in the UK! She posted a message saying she can’t wait to catch up with all of us, and told us she’s really proud of everything we’ve been achieving. It just warmed my heart!
Sam Gowland
Similar to Laura, Sam shared that he was finally able to book a flight from Dubai, after attempting to leave three times before.
Sam, age 30, claims this was his fourth try to leave the city, and that he was flying first class on Emirates to Mauritius.
He responded to those claiming no flights were leaving Dubai, saying he’d successfully checked in and was now in the lounge waiting to board his flight.
I’m cautiously optimistic about something I’m working on and will have an update for you within the next 30 minutes!
Sharing photos of his luxury first class suite, Sam shared his flight went ahead.
In a further update, he added: ‘And we’re on!! Dubai [to] Mauritius.
We are incredibly grateful to the UAE government for their ongoing protection and support. They consistently do an amazing job.
The former Love Island contestant shared that he was trying to leave Dubai for the fourth time on Monday.
The Love Islander shared a video explaining his travel troubles. His flight had been cancelled three times, but he finally managed to book another one for 10am, hoping this time he’d be able to travel successfully.
At this point, missile strikes and suicide drones had rocked the Middle East for five days.
Only a few days before the strikes started, Sam announced he was putting his recently finished Dubai mansion up for sale for a staggering £2 million.
The television personality, now successful in real estate, once more addressed the missile strikes, following a response to hateful online comments. He said the trolls seemed to enjoy the disaster and hoped for his misfortune.
Petra Ecclestone
Even though Petra Ecclestone and Sam Palmer publicly said they felt safe in Dubai, they left the city earlier this month.
Bernie Ecclestone’s daughter, a well-known socialite, flew out of the city on March 6th with her partner, Sam, and their four children. They traveled in business class on a regular commercial airline.
Many social media influencers have moved away since the UAE started hosting more regular commercial flights, but Petra clarified in an Instagram post that her departure wasn’t about avoiding something.
Petra, age 37, said she was traveling to London so her 13-year-old daughter, Lavinia, could compete in a European horse show.
Oh my gosh, I’m practically living vicariously through Petra right now! She just posted the cutest pictures from the airport with her family, and it got me thinking… can you believe it’s already been two months since she uprooted her whole life and moved to Dubai? Two months! I’m so obsessed with following her adventures, and that little airplane emoji just makes it even better. I wish I was there with them!
Things haven’t been perfect, and we’ve run into some challenges we didn’t anticipate. But we’ve worked through everything together, as a family, and come out stronger.
Despite the continued missile strikes, she maintained her departure wasn’t related to them. She clarified, ‘We didn’t leave because of the reasons everyone is talking about – it wasn’t an escape.’
That flight was our only option if we wanted to arrive in Europe for Lavinia’s horse shows on time.
We’re incredibly thankful for Dubai’s commitment to safety, and how safe and welcome it has made us feel while we’ve been adjusting to this new situation.
Petra is a mother to five children: Lavinia, twins Andrew and James (age 10), Minnie (age 5), and a child with her ex-husband, James Stunt. After some time away, she posted photos of her family back home in London.
She penned: ‘Home in my heart, and full of the childhood memories that raised me.’
Petra shared her distress earlier this week while in Dubai, telling her fans that she and her family had come to the city hoping for safety and were starting to feel settled when an unexpected event occurred.
You know, I’ve been thinking a lot about feeling truly safe and strong lately, and it really hit me – for me, that feeling is embodied by the UAE. It’s more than just a place; it feels like safety and resilience, and I wanted to share that with everyone.
Petra and Sam currently appear to be holidaying in Italy and are yet to return to their Dubai home.
Sophia Peschisolido
Sophia Makin, the 28-year-old daughter of Karren Brady, moved to Dubai in 2021 and is raising her family there with her husband, Frankie.
Life has been wonderful here in the UAE! My husband and I have built a beautiful family, welcoming our two little boys, Leo who’s two, and baby George who’s six months old. We really feel at home here and are so happy with the life we’ve created.
Sophia and Frankie announced in September they were selling their villa in Dubai, but it appears the reason was to prepare for a new baby.
The pregnant woman announced on social media that she’s requesting 7 million AED – about £1.4 million.
We’re expecting a new baby soon and are thinking of selling our villa, which is listed for 7 million AED. Please contact us if you’re interested or want more details.
With the war starting, I was so relieved to hear that Sophia, like many of us, quickly returned home to the UK. She’s in London now, and I’m glad she’s safe.
Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay let her fans know she was safe in Dubai, and then decided to fly back to the United States last week.
The actress, 39, was seen in New York with her husband, Bader Shammas, and their son, Luai, after leaving the UAE. She recently graced the cover of Vogue Arabia.
With the ongoing situation in the Middle East, Lindsay used Instagram to share a message of hope, writing to her followers: ‘Praying for peace. Please stay safe. God bless everyone.’
Soon after, a source revealed to the Daily Mail that Lindsay’s family and friends in the U.S. were worried about her.
According to a source, the situation is very active, and the family is staying in close contact. Currently, she is safe.
According to a source, Lindsay has been thriving in Dubai and has a history of staying calm during difficult times, like the COVID-19 pandemic.
But it was noted by the source that it is still ‘a scary time for everyone, including Lindsay.’
Taylor Ward
Just five days after the war began, social media personality Taylor told her followers that the missile attacks and drone strikes were already over and done with.
The celebrity spouse quickly claimed everything was fine, but this week, Taylor became the newest star to leave the country, flying to France.
Taylor shared a photo of her daughter Mila in the airplane cockpit just before landing at the Courchevel ski resort, revealing Mila had joined her on the trip. It’s unclear if her four-month-old son, Khayri, was also with them.
In 2023, the mother of two relocated to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, after her husband, Riyad Mahrez, signed a £30 million contract to play for Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.
Okay, so I’ve been tracking everything, and it’s insane! Apparently, they’re living between this HUGE place in Jeddah and Dubai now. Dubai is where Taylor’s mom, Dawn Ward – you might know her from Real Housewives of Cheshire, she’s amazing! – lives, so they spend time with her there. I’m honestly living for all these updates!
Okay, so Taylor posted on Instagram from Dubai earlier this month, and she insisted everything was amazing, even though she’d been totally quiet for a while! She actually apologized for not posting, which, like, she doesn’t need to, but it was so sweet. She was all about ‘onwards and upwards,’ and honestly, it just made me even more obsessed with her positive energy! It felt like a little message to us Swifties that she’s doing okay, and that’s all I needed to hear.
Taylor started her morning skincare routine and addressed her three million followers, saying she assumed everyone was already aware of the recent events in Dubai and didn’t want to repeat what the news had already covered.
It’s understandable that being here was frightening and a difficult experience. I believe we’ve moved past that now and can focus on rebuilding our lives and looking forward to a brighter future.
Taylor explained that, contrary to what some fans have asked about her potentially returning from the Middle East, living there has actually strengthened her desire to stay.
Honestly, this whole situation has actually increased my faith in our government. I’m really impressed with how effectively they’ve worked to protect us and take care of everyone. It’s reassuring to see such a strong and caring response.
Considering what occurred, I’m really surprised and relieved that the injuries and loss of life were so limited. Hopefully, everything is behind us now.
The influencer, making around $9,000 a month from Instagram, quickly transitioned to reviewing a skincare tool as part of her ‘Get Ready With Me’ video.
Taylor grew up in Manchester and was upset when she found out her family would be moving to Jeddah three years ago, after her husband accepted a new job there.
STAYED… FOR NOW
HSTikkyTokky
Social media personality HSTikkyTokky stated that Dubai is safe, despite reports of a drone attack that temporarily halted flights at the city’s airport just hours earlier. They specifically said there were ‘no bombs’ in the area.
Harrison Sullivan, 24, known online as HSTikkyTokky, recently shared a video on social media inviting his followers to visit Dubai, which he called ‘the best city in the world’.
The bodybuilder known for his extreme views on women, who was featured in a Louis Theroux documentary about online male communities, recently claimed that reports about Dubai circulating online are completely false. He used this as an example of why people shouldn’t believe everything they read on the internet.
‘There are no bombs coming over.
This city is fantastic – it’s truly a great place to be. Don’t believe everything you read online or on Twitter about it being shut down; that’s simply not true.
I’m currently staying with my mom, and things are surprisingly normal – I’m even eating the same meals as always, despite everything that’s happening.
‘Everything is popping. Dubai is the best city in the world. Come here.’
Jamelia
In March 2024, British singer Jamelia moved to Dubai with her daughters, wanting to begin a fresh phase of life and prioritize spending time with her family.
I’ve been following Jamelia’s story, and it’s so inspiring. After her partner left in 2022, she was suddenly a single mom, and it was really tough. She decided her family needed a completely new beginning, a fresh start to build a happy life, and I’m rooting for them all the way.
She had previously mentioned being single for three years and made it clear she didn’t want to discuss her ex, stating he wasn’t a part of her life anymore. She emphasized that her focus was solely on herself and her four daughters.
I began raising my child as a single mother in the UK, but I quickly realized I couldn’t do it alone and needed help.
Jamelia has expressed her happiness with her relocation and recently complimented the UAE, even after the strikes started. She shared her experiences with her followers a few weeks ago.
She admitted it wasn’t an ordinary day, but emphasized how proud she was to live in the neighborhood.
Oh my gosh, being here during the storms in 2024 was intense, but honestly, it just made me appreciate the UAE even more. They’re incredible! Seriously, the way they stepped up to keep everyone safe, even when things felt so chaotic, was just… amazing. Everything happened so quickly and was so well organized, and the constant reassurance really meant the world. It absolutely didn’t go unnoticed, and I’m so grateful for everything they do!
As a mom to four daughters, keeping them safe isn’t just a wish – it’s my top priority. There have been times I worried, checking on them again to be sure, but those feelings quickly passed. Our home has always been a peaceful, organized, and loving environment.
When things are calm, I realize how fortunate I am. Millions of people worldwide don’t have this same sense of safety. They can’t simply escape a bad situation, and a loud noise doesn’t signal help – it signals threat. That realization really stays with you and changes how you see things.
Honestly, I just feel so incredibly lucky right now. Lucky to feel secure, and even more lucky that my kids do too. It’s amazing to see everyone coming together – neighbours looking out for each other, constant messages of support… it’s like we all just know we’re in this together, and that means everything. It’s a feeling I’ll never forget.
This experience really highlighted how important safety is, and how crucial it is to value our community. It also reminded me to always be grateful – we’re incredibly fortunate. Praise be to God.
Arabella Chi
Despite growing concerns and an exodus of some expats from the Gulf, Arabella is continuing her daily life as usual in Dubai.
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE what she did! Our girl, she moved to Dubai last year, and when those awful missile strikes started happening, she was SO scared. She actually told all 1.2 million of us that she was clearing out her storage cupboard so her family could hide in there! Can you imagine? She was prepping a shelter for her kids – it was honestly terrifying to hear, but also showed how much of a super-mom she is! I’ve been following her every move since Love Island and this just proves how real she is.
Okay, so after that moment—that little slip-up—she was right back to normal. It’s like it never even happened! For the past week, my feed has been flooded with pictures of her perfect dates with Billy Henty, all cozy dinners and smiles, and then endless photos of her by the pool with little Gigi. Seriously, it’s a constant stream of idyllic family moments…it’s almost too perfect, you know?
Arabella spent Sunday at the beach with her daughter, taking pictures while relaxing in a white bikini. She shared the sunny photos online with the caption ‘sandy toes,’ and didn’t address the current troubles happening back home.
Following the outbreak of conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran, which caused disruption in the UAE, Arabella – who recently explained why she prefers living abroad rather than returning to the UK – is among the celebrities highlighting the positive aspects of life in Dubai.
Amir Khan
After a frightening armed robbery in Britain, boxer Amir Khan decided to move to Dubai in 2022, feeling unsafe remaining in his home country.
While having dinner with his wife, Faryal Makhdoom, and a friend at the Sahara Grill in east London, the reality TV star was targeted by thieves who were after his expensive £72,000 Franck Muller watch.
It was terrifying. This guy, armed with a gun, just sprinted right at Khan, shoving the weapon in his face and screaming at him to hand over his watch. I was so worried for him!
Amir has not commented publicly on the current crisis in the Middle East.
On Thursday, Amir Khan’s wife, Faryal, hinted at some trouble by sharing a meme that said, ‘everything will be ok in the end’.
She shared a heartfelt message for Eid, acknowledging that while some are celebrating, others are going through difficult times. The message asked for God to bring comfort to those who are suffering in silence.
Kady McDermott
I’ve been following Kady since her time on Love Island, and it’s been so fun to see what she’s been up to since she moved to Dubai last year! She posts regularly, giving us all a little peek into her life over there.
Although her latest photos don’t show any sign of worry, she did speak out about the situation, criticizing people who left their pets behind when leaving Dubai.
Kady shared on her Instagram Story that people leaving Dubai due to the recent drone and missile attacks are unfortunately leaving their pets behind.
Animal shelters and veterinarians are reporting a surge in requests from owners who want to euthanize their healthy pets because they can no longer care for them, often due to the owners’ own living situation changes.
Kady said she’d endure even the most dangerous situations just to be with her dogs, and she’s incredibly frustrated with people who don’t understand that level of devotion.
Let me tell you, as someone who travels a lot, I completely understand wanting your furry friend with you! But even I was surprised to hear that a certain celebrity spent over £3,000 to fly her dog business class all the way to Dubai. Talk about a pampered pup!
She admitted he’s pricey, but totally worth it. She also said she’d never travel or relocate without bringing her son along.
Hofit Golan
Hofit Golan, an Israeli social media personality, relocated to Dubai in December. She described being frightened and taking shelter in her bathtub when the recent conflict began and she saw an Iranian missile strike the Palm Jumeirah hotel, a well-known landmark in Dubai.
Hofit remembered hearing loud explosions and thinking, “I can’t believe this is happening, especially here in what’s supposed to be the safest city.”
Look, it’s completely normal to feel scared right now. Honestly, even in a place like the UAE, which is generally known for being so safe, it’s understandable to be on edge. It’s just a natural human response to feeling unsafe, and I want to assure you that’s okay.
You can see the explosions right outside your balcony. It’s not like fireworks – the light in the sky is completely different.
It’s natural to wonder what will happen later and if everyone will be able to get a good night’s sleep.
I felt completely stunned and momentarily lost my focus. I’m still trying to catch my breath and feel really shocked, overwhelmed, and tired.
The UAE is effectively defending against the missiles and handling the situation well. It’s natural to feel anxious or surprised by this, and that’s how I’m currently reacting.
I didn’t witness any injuries or hear anyone yelling. I’m feeling overwhelmed and a bit disoriented, still trying to make sense of everything that happened. It all feels unreal.
She said they’ve received reports that tourist attractions are closing, and people are being advised to stay inside and avoid windows.
Despite earlier concerns, she later stated that Dubai still felt safe. She then shared a look at her peaceful neighborhood, noting that other expatriates were returning to the beach.
I’m really tired because I didn’t get much sleep last night – all the alarms and outside noises kept me awake. Despite that, I feel alright and, more importantly, I feel safe, and we all are.
Everyone I’ve talked to is safe. I continue to feel very secure here, and I’m truly grateful to be in this place.
She shared an update saying she was thankful for everyone’s kind messages and concern. She confirmed she and everyone she’d been in contact with were safe, but exhausted due to the stressful situation and lack of sleep.
While filming the view from her balcony, she described a peaceful scene: The Palm Jumeirah was calm and quiet, creating a perfect day. She noted the beautiful, serene atmosphere, with people enjoying the beach and only the gentle sound of the breeze.
During an Instagram question-and-answer session on Thursday, Hofit was asked about the safety of Dubai in the near future. She responded by saying that there are potential dangers anywhere you travel.
Things are a little calmer in Dubai than I’m used to seeing, but I truly believe it’s still one of the safest cities in the world, and this quiet period won’t last forever.
I had a girlfriend who left Dubai for London when the war started, and unbelievably, she was robbed the very next day after arriving! Something like that just wouldn’t happen where I am.
‘We’re all extra careful here right now, but generally I still feel extremely safe.’
