The fact that İlhan Mansız is considered a free transfer suggests there isn’t much depth in the team, though he’s a potentially interesting player. As a forward, he’s not exceptional, but he makes good runs when near the penalty area. Otherwise, he tends to be quite isolated on the field.
Looking at his stats from the early 1990s, it’s clear he isn’t quite at a world-class level, but he definitely has some strong points. His biggest strength is finishing – he’s incredibly reliable when taking shots.
He also has a powerful kick, making long shots a real threat. I was particularly impressed by his physical strength. At 6’0″ with good physicality and jumping ability, he consistently wins headers, even without specific training for aerial play, which is a great asset.
Pace-wise, he’s pretty good. While he doesn’t have the quick bursts of speed some smaller strikers do, he’s fast enough and accelerates well, so he doesn’t feel slow when making quick runs or going for loose balls in the penalty area. His dribbling, however, is a bit of a weak point.
While the skill moves aren’t quite as refined as those of more skilled forwards, it’s not a major issue, especially for this type of player. There’s not much room for improvement, but that’s okay. Considering it’s a free card, this striker is actually quite good and useful.
