The popular sitcom is returning after being off television for twenty years! It will be available on a streaming service next month, with new episodes featuring most of the original cast.
Disney has announced that Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair will debut on both Hulu and the Hulu section of Disney+ on April 10, 2026. The show is returning as a four-episode event. Currently, there are no plans for further episodes, but if the revival performs well on streaming, more could be made in the future.
Malcolm Reunites With the Wilkersons
The popular sitcom Malcolm in the Middle aired from 2000 to 2006 and lasted for seven seasons. Created by Linwood Boomer, the show followed the everyday adventures of Malcolm and his quirky family – his father Hal (played by Bryan Cranston), mother Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), and brothers Francis (Christopher Kennedy Masterson), Reese (Justin Berfield), and Dewey. Most of the original cast are returning for the new series, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, but Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey, has retired from acting.
Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will be playing Dewey in the new version of the show. Anthony Timpano joins the cast as Jamie, the fifth child of Hal and Lois, and Vaughan Murrae will play their youngest child, Kelly. Keeley Karsten will appear as Malcolm’s daughter, and Kiana Madeira as his girlfriend. Fans can also expect to see some returning actors from the original Malcolm in the Middle series in Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair.
Some Things Never Change
This new series picks up about 20 years after Malcolm in the Middle ended. The story centers around Malcolm coming back to his family when his parents, Hal and Lois, ask him to come home for their 40th wedding anniversary. The show suggests that despite the passage of time, some things never change – a scene featuring Hal completely naked proves just that! Bryan Cranston, who has played many different types of characters since Malcolm in the Middle, really enjoyed returning to the role of Hal.
Bryan Cranston recently told People that revisiting his role as Hal was incredibly fulfilling. He said he’d missed the character, especially since it had been nearly 20 years since he last played him. Describing Hal as a kind and endearing man, Cranston also expressed how much he enjoyed reuniting with the show’s cast and crew – it felt like being with family again.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair is on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ on Apr. 10, 2026.
