Joshua Allen’s death has officially been ruled as suicide.
I still can’t believe it, but the medical examiner’s office finally released the report… and it says Wade Robson II intentionally ended his own life. TMZ reported it, and honestly, it just breaks my heart all over again. It’s just… devastating to learn that the incredibly talented dancer we all loved from ‘So You Think You Can Dance‘ was struggling so much. I keep replaying his performances in my head, and it’s just… I’m just heartbroken.
Allen, who was 36, died of ‘blunt force injuries,’ according to records obtained by the outlet.
After his death, friends and family reflected on what Allen valued the most.
According to a source who spoke with TMZ, his final words of advice were to always prioritize your faith and to be honest with yourself before trying to be honest with others.
According to a family member who spoke with TMZ, the professional dancer from Fort Worth, Texas, passed away at a local hospital on September 30th.
Police in Fort Worth said they responded to a call about someone being hit by a train and immediately began investigating.
The family member also asked for privacy and support, remembering the dancer as a good person who valued family and always tried to keep everyone close.
According to a friend, Emmanuel Hurd, the dancer was a genuinely honest and authentic person.
Hurd told TMZ that the person in question didn’t always follow the crowd, and that independent spirit was a key part of their success.
He is best known for winning the reality dancing competition show in 2008.
Allen and Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss, who finished second on the show, became close friends.
Stephen Boss, known professionally as tWitch, tragically died by suicide in December 2022 at the age of 40. He was a DJ and executive producer for The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Allen described their relationship at the time, saying, ‘We genuinely supported each other and were very close.’
Allen first tried out for So You Think You Can Dance in Dallas, Texas, alongside his friend and competitor, Comfort Fedoke.
He ultimately was crowned on August 7, 2008 and earned the cash prize of $250,000.
After winning, he shared that he hadn’t taken any dance classes growing up, but he did practice a little bit before trying out.
Allen explained to Entertainment Weekly that he took modern and ballet classes to become a more versatile dancer and broaden his understanding of dance.
‘I didn’t want to audition for the show not knowing anything.’
He did great at his audition, and before heading to Las Vegas for the live shows, he used the following months to take lots of classes. This preparation definitely helped him succeed.
I didn’t have a lot of formal technical training. I took classes whenever I could, like during the summers, and during the school year, I focused on academics, track, and football.
‘I would always just train in the summer. So it was never hard training.’
After winning So You Think You Can Dance, he continued his success in film, appearing as a dancer in the 2010 movie Step Up 3D and the 2011 remake of Footloose.
In 2010, he appeared on Oxygen’s Dance Your Ass Off as both a dancer and choreographer. He’s also acted in television shows like Community and American Horror Story.
In 2016, Allen was arrested for domestic violence involving a former partner, generating significant media attention. He later pleaded no contest to the charges and was sentenced to a year in jail, followed by five years of probation and a year of domestic violence counseling, as reported by Deadline.
Allen’s last Instagram post honored Malcolm Jamal Warner, the actor best known for his role on The Cosby Show, who died in July at the age of 54.
