Invincible Confirms Who the Spy-Mole In the Coalition of Planets Actually Is In the Comics’ Volume 13 Issue #73

Okay, so Season 2 of Invincible is seriously intense! Right after Aikreon joined the Coalition of Planets, the Viltrum Empire just attacked them, which was a huge shock. That led Thaedus, the Coalition leader, to ask Allen the Alien to figure out if they had a traitor among them. But honestly, before Allen could even start looking into it, he got jumped by three Viltrumites! It was a total cliffhanger and I’m so worried about him!

It was awful seeing them grill my friend about Mark and whether he was really Nolan’s kid – how did they even know that? He refused to tell them anything, and they seriously hurt him for it. Luckily, he pulled through, but it changed him. He came back even stronger than Invincible, and it made Thaedus and me realize someone close to us must be leaking information to the enemy. We’re certain of it now.

Many people had the opportunity to reveal details about Nolan’s son to the Empire. Allen shared the news with all the Coalition council members, and several of them already doubted whether Mark Grayson should be recruited. Any of these individuals might have panicked and made a secret agreement with the Viltrumites, hoping to save themselves and their communities from the destruction Aikreon suffered.

The suspicion of a spy resurfaced in Season 4 when Allen introduced Nolan to Thaedus at the Coalition of Planets. Allen’s girlfriend and boss, Telia, increased security to prevent more information from getting out. However, the spy has been obvious all along, with easy access to everything needed to share secrets with the Viltrum Empire.

Who the Spy-Mole In the Coalition of Planets Is In Invincible Comics, Explained

When Allen and Nolan arrived at Coalition headquarters, they walked past the Data Twins—aliens responsible for keeping track of all Coalition agent information—and instantly suspected their recent visitor with the mustache was a Viltrumite.

The first twin seemed simply careful, but the camera focused intently on the bigger twin as he considered bringing another Viltrumite into the fight against the Empire. This suggests, unless it’s a deliberate distraction, that Data Twin II is likely the spy within the Coalition, mirroring what happens in the original comic books.

The shocking truth comes to light in the final pages of Invincible #73: Data Twin II has been secretly working for Thragg, the Emperor of the Viltrumites, for years. Thragg’s final command to Data Twin II was to disable the Coalition headquarters’ defenses, leaving it completely vulnerable to attack.

The Empire nearly wiped out the Coalition, leaving things looking incredibly bleak. Just before the final attack overwhelmed them, Nolan, Mark, and Oliver returned to fight after Invincible defeated Conquest, forcing the Viltrumites to retreat and prepare for another battle on their home planet. Once the Viltrumites were gone, one of the twin brothers finally revealed his sibling as the traitor.

Sadly, we don’t get much information about Data Twin II or what led him to become a spy for the Viltrum Empire. It seems he probably acted out of fear, realizing the Empire was too powerful to defeat. He confirmed this when his betrayal was discovered, telling everyone, “You’ve got no hope of winning this war.”

Given how much the show has developed its storylines and characters—even bringing back an old idea for Damien Darkblood from the comics—it’s likely we’ll find out more about Data Twin II and why he turned against the Coalition before the season ends.
