Downton Abbey star’s “compelling” horror series finally lands release date

Season 3 of the horror series The Terror, starring Dan Stevens, will premiere soon! The show, which began in 2018, tells a different scary story each season, always based on historical events. Previous seasons have explored a doomed Arctic expedition and life inside a Japanese internment camp run by the US.

The third episode, called “Devil in Silver,” is inspired by Victor LaValle’s novel of the same name and tells the story of a man wrongly sent to a mental hospital.

The new season will officially launch on Thursday, May 7th, and will be available to stream on AMC+ and Shudder.

In Downton Abbey‘s Stevens’ new role, he plays Pepper, a patient at New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital. There, he faces challenges from fellow patients, doctors hiding dark secrets, and potentially even demonic forces.

The story follows Pepper as he struggles through a terrifying and deceptive world. He discovers the key to escaping New Hyde lies in confronting the force that feeds on the pain within its walls, but this confrontation might reveal that his own inner demons are the most dangerous of all.

LaValle, Chris Cantwell (from Paper Girls), and Karyn Kusama (from Yellowjackets) all served as showrunners and writers for the season, with Kusama directing the initial two episodes.

The show also features Judith Light (known for Poker Face), CCH Pounder (Avatar), Aasif Mandvi (A Series of Unfortunate Events), John Benjamin Hickey (Daredevil: Born Again), Stephen Root (Barry), Michael Aronov (The Americans), Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy), and Chinaza Uche (Silo).

According to The Independent, the first season of The Terror is a captivating and frightening story, and the best new drama to air in Britain this year.

The Times praised it as better than most survival horror games, and The Arts Desk highlighted its realistic and unsettling portrayal of life aboard a ship in the mid-1800s.

The Terror: Devil in Silver will premiere on Thursday, 7 May on AMC+ and Shudder.
