A popular fantasy series is starting a new chapter with several projects currently in the works. Now that the latest TV show has finished, the creators are planning how to expand the story into other types of media.
Several Wheel of Time projects are in work from Thomas Vu
Variety reports that several new projects based on The Wheel of Time are being developed by iwot Studios, working with Thomas Vu, a producer known for Arcane, and Initiate Entertainment.
The project includes a new animated TV show, animated movies, and a video game for computers and mobile devices, all inspired by Robert Jordan’s books. Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon, who previously worked on the live-action series, are also involved in this collaboration.
These projects don’t yet have distribution deals with any streaming services or platforms, but they’re intended to help the franchise reach a wider audience and connect with fans globally. Vu came on board after successfully helping Riot Games grow League of Legends into a worldwide brand. As part of the initial development process, the team has released a sample image of the character Rand al’Thor.
iwot has stated that these new projects are separate from earlier Wheel of Time adaptations, like the animated feature ‘The White Tower’ and Kari Skogland’s planned live-action film ‘Age of Legends’. They are also working on high-quality, open-world role-playing games at iwot Games Montréal. These new initiatives are part of iwot’s overall plan after the Amazon TV series was canceled.
iwot Studios and Framestore have partnered up, marking another step in iwot’s growth into different types of entertainment. Anthony Borquez, who previously co-founded Grab Labs and Grab Games, is now part of the team, bringing his expertise in creating interactive stories and games powered by artificial intelligence.
Vu believes there’s huge potential to build on ‘The Wheel of Time’ with immersive stories that include animation and allow fans to interact with the world. Selvage highlighted Thomas’s talent for turning complex stories into successful global entertainment brands.
