Neil Perry is facing backlash after reportedly making negative comments about actress Demi Moore while talking about the drug Ozempic.
The well-known food expert, age 63, currently runs two restaurants—Margaret and Gran Torino—in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, an area where the trend of using Ozempic has become very popular.
In an interview with The Australian, Neil was questioned about whether the recent trend had changed the food he serves or the amount he gives to customers.
Neil acknowledged things hadn’t changed, and then mentioned Demi Moore’s recent public appearances, which led to more speculation that she might be using a weight-loss drug like Ozempic or Wegovy.
He recently saw Demi Moore, whom he considers one of the most beautiful women in the world. He admitted that because he’s around the same age as her, he’s always found her particularly gorgeous.
Neil expressed concern that weight loss drugs such as Ozempic can lead to muscle loss.
‘Ozempic doesn’t just waste fat, it wastes muscle,’ he said.
It’s concerning to see someone become dangerously thin, almost to the point of starvation. Maintaining muscle mass is especially crucial for health as we age.
You know, when I talk about building muscle, I’m not suggesting everyone needs to become a bodybuilder! What I really mean is focusing on lean muscle – having a healthy, toned physique supported by a good diet. It’s about feeling strong and energized, not necessarily about bulk.
Neil also pointed out that the lasting impact of the drug remains unknown, drawing a comparison to the history of the tobacco industry.
‘I think it’s like the tobacco industry,’ he said.
‘In 25 years’ time, everybody will be suing the s*** out of them.’
On Thursday, a clip from the interview was posted to the publication’s Instagram, and the chef received some backlash for what he said.
One person questioned why a chef was being asked for their opinion on Ozempic, a prescription medication for a long-term health condition, stating, ‘It’s not food!’
Another offered: ‘When did Neil become a medical specialist?’
Another person criticized Neil’s comments, saying his opinion wasn’t relevant, comparing it to asking a family doctor for cooking advice.
It’s unhelpful and potentially harmful for someone without medical or scientific training to explain how a medication works.
The backlash continued, and one person online even accused Neil of body shaming the actress from Striptease.
Excuse me, you’re not a medical professional, so please stop criticizing someone’s appearance. Perhaps you should consider your own self-reflection before commenting on others.
It wasn’t all negative, however, with many agreeing with Neil’s take on Ozempic.
One person expressed support for the chef’s feelings and complete agreement, while another added that the chef was right to respond when asked, and their answer was reasonable.
One person perfectly captured what many were thinking, saying, ‘Exactly! Life is best when you’re sharing good food with the people you love.’
Daily Mail has reached out to Neil Perry for comment.
Recently, people have expressed worry about Demi Moore’s noticeably thin appearance after she attended several red carpet events.
Following her appearance at the Actor Awards in Los Angeles earlier this month, people on X (formerly Twitter) expressed worry about her noticeably thin physique and suggested she might have used the weight-loss drug Ozempic.
‘Is she on Ozempic?’ one user asked Grok.
‘Too skinny,’ another wrote.
‘She… didn’t look like this last year, did she?’ commented someone else.
‘Good grief, is all of Hollywood on Ozempic?’ one more asked.
Demi Moore raised eyebrows after appearing at both the Oscars and the Actors Awards earlier this month, with many expressing concern about her appearance.
