Jade Brycki, formerly known as Jade Tunchy, faced online criticism on Thursday after posting a comparison between her self-assurance and the confidence of the renowned artist Vincent van Gogh.
Oh my gosh, she posted the cutest picture last Thursday! It was her standing in a café doorway, and she was holding her Louis Vuitton bag – seriously, she looks incredible! I’ve already screenshotted it, of course. It’s just… perfect.
She shared a detailed caption with the photo, explaining that people had made fun of her for taking it and stating that it took bravery to be a social media influencer.
She started her story by saying, ‘I was taking pictures with my friends today when I noticed some people watching and laughing at me.’
It’s possible people were just being friendly and happened to say something at the moment I looked up, but it’s hard not to think they might have been joking at my expense.
Jade shared that when she started using Instagram, taking selfies in public was a debated topic. She also mentioned that she and her husband, Lachie Brycki, used to feel self-conscious about taking pictures of each other when they first began dating.
She explained that they worried about attracting attention, though she pointed out that taking selfies in public is now commonplace – they even created selfie sticks!
It’s funny, people don’t usually see influencers as brave, because courage is typically associated with things we admire. But honestly, it took a lot of courage to keep creating content and facing potentially awkward situations, even when it felt risky.
Believing in yourself, even when others doubt you, requires bravery. It also takes courage to be different and to pursue your goals, no matter what.
Let me tell you something I’ve seen time and time again: so many of us let fear – fear of failing, of being judged, or just looking silly – stop us from pursuing what we really want. It’s easy to forget that even the greats faced criticism! Think about Van Gogh, for example. His style was actually criticized during his lifetime, and sadly, he never got to experience the incredible success he has today – it only came after he was gone. That’s a powerful reminder that you can’t let the possibility of negative feedback hold you back from trying.
Believe it or not, Walt Disney was once let go from a newspaper because his editors didn’t think he was creative enough. And Dr. Seuss faced a lot of rejection – his first book was turned down by publishers a remarkable 27 times!
Taking selfies isn’t unusual, but I’ve always believed in myself, and that confidence has been key to achieving my goals.
Jade explained that she considers her skill in ignoring distractions and following her convictions to be remarkable.
I’m not saying I’m crazy—though performing for 60,000 people and knowing I have over 16 million followers is a bit surreal!—but I want you to stop worrying about what everyone else thinks, embrace feeling uncomfortable, and have confidence in yourself.
Does becoming an influencer actually take bravery, or does it miss the mark when it comes to true courage in today’s world?
Comment now
Look, I’ve learned something really important: don’t worry about the naysayers. Let people chuckle if they want to – honestly, it doesn’t matter. You’ll be too busy living the life you always envisioned to even notice, and trust me, those who are laughing now won’t be a part of it. That’s a promise. It’s about creating a life you love, and that’s what truly counts.
People on Reddit strongly criticized a mother of two after she shared a post, accusing her of inappropriately comparing herself to celebrities and overstating the difficulty of being an influencer.
One person commented, upset that she was comparing taking pictures in public to the lasting impact and achievements of the people she referenced.
Someone commented, ‘Seriously, it takes real courage to be a frontline worker, facing incredibly difficult situations to help others. It’s not courageous to just pose for a photo in front of a coffee shop.’
Someone commented that influencers often seem silly when they’re not carefully presenting themselves online, and another person agreed, saying we shouldn’t accept this as normal behavior.
‘Begging every influencer to please get a real job omg,’ someone else commented.
One person pleaded with influencers to recognize the realities most people face, suggesting they find employment and stop portraying themselves as victims. They urged them to engage in meaningful work instead of what they described as pointless behavior.
‘The most tone-deaf. Girl needs to do work experience at a hospital or ambulance,’ one user wrote.
Daily Mail has reached out to Jade for comment.
