Uma Thurman, 55, returns for new action thriller movie 23 years after Kill Bill but confesses she doesn’t ‘particularly like’ violence on screen

It’s been 23 years since Uma Thurman’s iconic character, with her distinctive yellow jumpsuit and deadly katana sword, first appeared in Kill Bill and became a film icon.

Uma Thurman returns in the action thriller Pretty Lethal, playing a former ballerina seeking revenge.

Despite becoming well-known for her role as a violent character in Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 film, the 55-year-old actress says she doesn’t enjoy violence in general.

She explained that while some people enjoy violent or action-packed scenes, she personally doesn’t. However, she can appreciate it when those scenes are particularly well-executed, almost like watching a stunning dance performance – the skill and artistry can be captivating.

I’ve always been fascinated by how different worlds collide, and that’s exactly what drew me to the fighting style in Pretty Lethal. It’s this incredible blend of martial arts and ballet – a really unique and captivating approach to action. It just makes sense that someone with my sensibilities would appreciate it!

The movie features Maddie Ziegler, Lana Condor, and Iris Apatow, and tells the story of a group of ballerinas stranded at a secluded inn when their bus malfunctions, and their attempts to get away.

Uma, a cold and ruthless owner, and her followers relentlessly pursue them, in a story filled with perfectly executed fights.

After starring in Kill Bill, the actress has primarily appeared in romantic films or smaller, independent movies like Bel Ami and Playing For Keeps.

Uma believes there’s no need to worry about AI. She explained that the key is to be adaptable, open to new ideas, and maintain a positive outlook.

Uma Thurman saw her former Kill Bill director, Quentin Tarantino, again in November at the premiere of The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge.

Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman have had a complicated working relationship ever since their successful collaborations on Pulp Fiction and the first Kill Bill movie. Things became particularly difficult after an on-set car stunt caused Uma to be injured.

I remember reading about it in The New York Times back in 2018, and it just broke my heart! Apparently, things got really tough for Uma and her partner after she was hurt in a car accident while filming. She damaged her neck and knee, and it really put a strain on their relationship, according to the article. I felt so bad for her; it sounded incredibly painful and difficult to deal with.

She explained that Quentin entered her trailer and, like many directors, didn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. He became angry because she had caused delays, but she was frightened by his behavior. He tried to reassure her, saying, “I promise the car is fine; it’s a simple, straight road.”

Even though the accident strained their connection, Tarantino assisted her in getting footage of it, hoping to expose Harvey Weinstein’s suspected attempt to hide information about the incident.

Tarantino told Deadline he was deeply upset about it, calling it one of the biggest regrets of his entire life, and citing many reasons why.

He explained that she was right to be angry with him for the accident, admitting it was his fault. He hadn’t intended to cause the crash, and he felt responsible because he’d convinced her to come with him, falsely believing the road was safe.

Uma Thurman’s daughter, Maya Hawke, recently appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, playing Linda Kasabian, a member of the Manson Family.
