Kristen Stewart will star as astronaut Sally Ride in a new television series about the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. This will be Stewart’s first time leading a TV show, and the series has been approved by Amazon Prime Video.
The series, called The Challenger, recounts the story of the 1986 space shuttle disaster, where all seven astronauts on board lost their lives. It will also cover the subsequent investigation into what happened.
Mae Jemison participated on the committees examining the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, and this show will detail her experiences during that investigation.

The show centers on Sally and her fellow astronauts from the 1978 class as they navigate the challenges and triumphs of joining the space shuttle program. It follows their journey from recruitment and training through their careers and personal lives, culminating in Sally’s groundbreaking achievement as the first American woman in space, as reported by Variety.
The upcoming series, The Challenger, is adapted from Meredith E. Bagby’s book, The New Guys. Maggie Cohn, known for her work on The Staircase, will be the showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

Kyra Sedgwick, known for her role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, will be an executive producer on the project, working with Valerie Stadler of Big Swing Productions.
Stewart has been very busy recently, especially with the release of her first film as a director, The Chronology of Water, which came out at the end of last year.
She’ll also be acting with Oscar Isaac and Elizabeth Olsen in the upcoming vampire thriller, Flesh of the Gods.

Kristen Stewart, known for her role in the Twilight movies, recently said she would be interested in directing a remake of the series.
When Entertainment Tonight asked Kristen Stewart about potentially directing a Twilight remake, she responded that she admired the original directors’ unique and somewhat unconventional style. She appreciated how they brought their individual personalities to the films, especially since they were still developing their voices before becoming famous.
If I had the resources and backing I need, I’d be thrilled to revisit and remake this project. I’m fully on board and dedicated to making it happen.
