Fans were surprised to see a major change in the appearance of a popular actor from a hit TV comedy of the 2010s when he was photographed this week.
The 47-year-old actor starred in a popular comedy show on Fox from 2011 to 2018 before going on to play a famous superhero in Hollywood.
He’s appeared in several major blockbuster franchises, such as the first Jurassic World movie in 2015 and the 2017 reboot of The Mummy, which starred Tom Cruise.
He was seen this week filming a new comedy pilot for NBC, where he plays the role of a private detective.
He was noticeably thinner during his popular TV show, but he’s gained muscle and looked much more built while filming his new project, wearing a tight-fitting white tank top.
Can you guess who he is?
He’s Jake Johnson, who many New Girl fans know as Nick Miller. Nick was one of the three male roommates of Jess Day, the show’s main character, played by Zooey Deschanel.
Zooey Deschanel became widely known for her unique and charming personality in the TV show New Girl. She first gained attention for a similar role in the 2009 film 500 Days of Summer.
The series begins with Jess moving in with three male roommates: Schmidt, Winston, and Nick, who is played by Johnson.
Throughout the show, Jess and Nick develop a romantic connection, similar to the on-again, off-again relationship between Ross and Rachel in Friends.
The show New Girl concluded in 2018 after seven seasons. That same year, actor Jake Johnson provided the voice for a Spider-Man character in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
On the set of his new detective comedy, Johnson was spotted in a tight tank top and belted jeans, which showed off his physique.
According to Variety, NBC says the character Mickey, played by [actor’s name if known], is a former LAPD officer whose life fell apart three years prior to the show’s events.
Mickey is a private investigator who’s good at cracking cases. He’s intelligent and a bit world-weary, hiding his sadness behind a tough exterior.
Keith David, the 69-year-old actor known for roles in films like There’s Something About Mary, Armageddon, and Requiem for a Dream, will play Garner Taggert, the character’s boss.
I’m so excited to share some casting news! Mary Shalaby is joining the project as the delightfully apathetic receptionist at the PI agency. Variety announced it yesterday, and I think she’s going to absolutely nail the role – a little bit of ‘not caring’ is always a fun dynamic to play with!
The pilot episode, currently without a title, was penned by two writers with experience on the hit show Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Dan Goor, one of the show’s creators, and Luke Del Tredici, a writer for the series.
Johnson has been married to artist Erin Payne since 2006, and they have twin daughters, Elizabeth and Olivia, born in 2014.
