Best Movies on Crave to Watch Right Now

I’ve been so impressed with Crave lately! It’s amazing to see Canadian shows like Heated Rivalry gaining fans all over the world, and Shoresy has really built a dedicated following – it feels like everyone up north is watching! Honestly, it sometimes seems like hockey is at the heart of Canadian culture. Plus, as a Canadian, Crave is my go-to for all the great HBO content since we don’t get HBO Max here.

Crave is famous for its TV shows, but it also offers a fantastic selection of movies. Whether you’re a long-time subscriber, tuning in for hockey, or just joining the service, there are plenty of great films to enjoy on their streaming platform.

‘Sinners’ (2025)

Warner Bros. Pictures

Ryan Coogler’s Southern Gothic horror film, starring Michael B. Jordan, was a huge success in theaters, becoming one of the most profitable original horror movies ever made. It’s rare to find a movie fan who hasn’t seen Sinners, a film that cleverly explores themes of vampirism and its impact on a Black community in 1930s Mississippi.

This critically acclaimed film captivated audiences and achieved record-breaking Oscar nominations. It’s a powerful and unforgettable story of survival, skillfully combining cultural insights, drama, social issues, and horror – a must-watch for Crave subscribers who haven’t seen it yet.

‘Drive’ (2011)

Film District

The film Drive centers on a highly skilled Hollywood stuntman and getaway driver (Ryan Gosling) who develops a connection with his neighbor, Irene (Carey Mulligan), and her son. His life is complicated when Irene’s dangerous ex-husband is released from prison, forcing the Driver to take on a risky job. When the job goes awry, he finds himself hunted by ruthless criminals.

In 2011, Ryan Gosling became a style icon, embodying coolness with his relaxed attitude, impressive driving, and effortless fashion. His film, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, was a huge influence – bomber jacket sales reportedly soared! The movie wasn’t just about Gosling’s performance, though; it was visually stunning with its neon lighting and memorable soundtrack. Overall, it’s a gripping and immersive thriller.

‘Lady Snowblood’ (1973)

Toho

You might not expect a 1970s Japanese action movie to be a standout on Crave, but trust us, it’s worth checking out. Lady Snowblood tells the story of Yuki Kashima (played by Meiko Kaji), who was raised from childhood to be a skilled assassin. Her mission? To avenge her parents by hunting down the four men responsible for their deaths.

As a huge cinema fan, I always recommend Lady Snowblood – it’s absolutely overflowing with style. If you love Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill, you need to see this, because it’s a major influence – he borrowed a lot from it! Beyond that, it’s just a gorgeous, visually striking period film that mixes beautiful aesthetics with some seriously intense action. If you’re looking for a classic to settle in with, this is a fantastic pick.

‘Wild Things’ (1998)

Columbia Pictures

Neve Campbell and Denise Richards deliver strong performances in this suspenseful thriller about two teenage girls who accuse their school counselor of sexual assault. But the story quickly becomes complicated, and it’s not clear who’s telling the truth. All three are suspected of plotting elaborate schemes, leading to an investigation to reveal what really happened. The film also features Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon, and Bill Murray.

Beyond its fantastic cast, Wild Things is surprisingly complex. It’s actually been compared to ancient Greek tragedies, hinting at influences from classic myths. While some call it over-the-top, it’s a fun and enjoyable movie to watch.

‘Beetlejuice’ (1988)

Warner Bros.

Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice features Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as a couple who, believing they died in a car crash, find themselves haunting their former home. When a new family moves in, their daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) is the only one who can see them. Michael Keaton plays Beetlejuice, a wildly inappropriate ‘bio-exorcist’ hired to scare the family away and allow the ghosts to finally rest. He’s known for being boisterous, rude, and incredibly funny, and his look is instantly recognizable.

Beetlejuice is a fantastic movie that people enjoy year-round, not just at Halloween. It’s funny and spooky, but not too scary, making it a perfect way to introduce kids to the horror genre. This classic film beautifully blends horror and humor, and continues to entertain audiences of all ages.

‘The Exorcist’ (1973)

Warner Bros.

In the classic horror film The Exorcist, Linda Blair plays Regan, a young girl taken over by a demonic presence. Her desperate parents seek the assistance of two Catholic priests to free her. Though numerous follow-up movies and projects have explored similar ideas, The Exorcist is still considered the most famous and influential film of its kind.

Considered one of the greatest horror films of all time, The Exorcist is essential viewing for any horror fan—and movie lovers in general. Though it sparked a lot of controversy when it first came out, its impact can still be seen in horror movies today. Even if you usually prefer modern horror, don’t let its age put you off—the film’s chilling atmosphere and suspense are as powerful, if not more so, than those in many recent hits.

‘Boogie Nights’ (1997)

New Line Cinema

The film Boogie Nights follows Eddie (Mark Wahlberg), a young man who falls in with porn director Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds) after meeting him while washing dishes at a club. Jack sees potential in Eddie and encourages him to try out for a role, hinting at stardom. Soon, Eddie reinvents himself as Dirk Diggler and quickly becomes a sensation in the adult film world.

Set in the 1970s and 80s, Boogie Nights is a longer version of Paul Thomas Anderson’s earlier short film, The Dirk Diggler Story. Many film fans still consider Boogie Nights to be Anderson’s finest work, and it’s even hailed by some as one of the greatest movies of all time. It’s a funny, heartwarming, and captivating story, brought to life by a talented cast.

‘Poetic Justice’ (1993)

Sony Pictures Releasing

Janet Jackson is famous for her music, but she’s also a talented actress. Many remember her role in the film Poetic Justice, alongside Tupac Shakur, directed by John Singleton. It’s a poignant story, especially considering Shakur’s own untimely death a few years later. The movie centers on Justice (played by Jackson), who is grieving the loss of her boyfriend to gun violence. She takes a road trip with her friend Iesha (Regina King) and finds comfort in Lawrence (Shakur), a postal worker who becomes her only support during a difficult time.

Since its release twenty years ago, Poetic Justice has gained a dedicated fanbase and continues to be a beloved film. Many viewers connect with the story and appreciate it as a showcase of Janet Jackson’s acting skills. It also offers a nostalgic look at Tupac Shakur, revealing a more gentle side of the iconic artist.

‘Shrek’ (2001)

DreamWorks Pictures

I absolutely love this movie! It’s about Shrek, this grumpy ogre voiced by Mike Myers, and how he unexpectedly falls for Princess Fiona. At first, she’s understandably scared of him, but she quickly realizes he’s a good guy. They team up to take down this really awful villain, Lord Farquaad, who just wants to marry Fiona to become king. It’s a hilarious and heartwarming story!

Featuring the voices of Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow, Shrek made history as the first animated film to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The movie went on to have three sequels and two spin-offs, but its biggest impact was teaching children an important lesson: don’t judge others based on appearances, but rather on who they are inside.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’ (2001)

New Line Cinema

The movie The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is based on the first book in J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic The Lord of the Rings series. It takes place in the magical world of Middle-earth, where a powerful Dark Lord is searching for a lost Ring that would restore his strength. When a humble hobbit named Frodo Baggins unexpectedly finds the Ring, he must embark on a dangerous quest to destroy it. His journey is fraught with challenges, secrets, and the lure of the Ring’s power.

The film brilliantly adapted the beloved epic fantasy story for the big screen, creating a truly unforgettable experience. Everything from the costumes and special effects to the talented actors and the way the story was told cemented Peter Jackson’s movie as a classic of the genre. It launched a whole series of films and likely influenced later hits like Game of Thrones.
