Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Trailer Reveals New Metal Sonic Look & Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik Return

Sonic is back with a new look (again).

The newest Sonic the Hedgehog movie, titled Sonic the Hedgehog 4, continues the series based on the classic Sega video game. While the story is still a secret, we know the film will feature Amy Rose, voiced by Kristen Bell, and Metal Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is scheduled to come out on March 19, 2027, and another, separate Sonic movie is planned for December 2028.

With filming now underway, Paramount Pictures has just released the first teaser trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. The trailer gives fans a glimpse of the new character, Metal Sonic, and includes narration from Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, confirming his return for the fourth film. Along with confirming Jim Carrey will be back for the next movie, the studio also announced the complete cast for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Ben Schwartz will once again voice Sonic, and Idris Elba will return as Knuckles. Colleen O’Shaughnessey will reprise her role as Tails, while James Marsden and Tika Sumpter are back as Tom and Maddie, respectively. Lee Majdoub will also return as Agent Stone.

The movie will star several new faces, including Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Richard Ayoade, and Nick Offerman. This brings Nick Offerman and the director back together, as they previously worked on Parks and Recreation. Plus, Keanu Reeves is confirmed to reprise his role as Shadow the Hedgehog.

The biggest surprise in the new movie is Jim Carrey’s return, especially since the last film seemed to wrap up Dr. Robotnik’s story. The previous movie ended with Robotnik seemingly sacrificing himself to save the planet, dramatically exploding while saying goodbye to Agent Stone.

The new Sonic the Hedgehog 4 teaser doesn’t show any new scenes, but the music suggests what the movie’s story will be based on. The trailer uses a remix of the classic “Sonic Boom” theme, strongly hinting that Sonic CD is the main inspiration. This could mean the movie will involve time travel, which would allow the villain Robotnik to return without negating the satisfying conclusion to the third film for Jim Carrey’s character.

It’s not surprising to see Keanu Reeves reprise his role as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, as the previous movie’s ending showed him returning to Earth and collecting his Chaos Rings. With a spin-off movie also planned, this new film could set up a story focused on Shadow. Since the release is still over a year away and many cast members haven’t been officially connected to characters yet, fans are eagerly awaiting every new detail about the movie.
