Both Nanny McPhee and its sequel, Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, starring Emma Thompson and Maggie Smith, are now available to watch on Netflix.
I remember when Nanny McPhee Returns came out back in 2010! It’s about this frazzled mom whose husband is fighting in the war, and Nanny McPhee steps in to help. She basically teaches her three kids, plus these two really annoying cousins, five important life lessons. It was a pretty fun movie!
As a big fan, I’m so excited that both this new movie and the first one – both written by Thompson, who’s amazing – are now available to stream on Netflix! It’s great news for anyone who wants to watch them or revisit these stories.

I saw a review for The Big Bang on IMDb that really stuck with me. This person called the movie ‘terrific’ and made a great point about the script. They said Emma Thompson deserves a lot of credit, because a bad screenplay can totally ruin a film, but a good one can really make it shine!
One reviewer praised the film as “wonderful,” highlighting its charming story, excellent casting, and affectionate direction. They also noted how effectively the picturesque settings were used.

One viewer said they never thought a sequel could be as good as the original, but this one exceeded their expectations. They were completely drawn into the story and characters within the first ten minutes, and all their doubts disappeared.

Okay, so the movie got a pretty good reception from critics! Rotten Tomatoes gave it a ‘Fresh’ rating of 76% based on 120 reviews, and most people agreed it was even better than the first one. They said it’s really charming and a great family movie with a fantastic cast – definitely a win in my book!
The film stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, known from The Bride, Rhys Ifans from House of the Dragon, Asa Butterfield of Sex Education, Ewan McGregor from Star Wars, and Ralph Fiennes, who appears in 28 Years Later, alongside Thompson and Smith.
