Celebrities plug their brands as they offer a surprising reaction to Kyle Sandilands getting the axe

Following Kyle Sandilands‘ departure from KIIS FM, several prominent Australian entertainers have shared their thoughts, often using the situation to promote their own work.

The radio host’s suspension comes after a heated argument with Jackie ‘O’ Henderson on the air last month.

On Thursday in Sydney, Richard Wilkins, Matt Shirvington, and Natalie Barr shared their thoughts with the Daily Mail while attending a charity event.

Oh my gosh, when they asked Richard Wilkins about Kyle Sandilands leaving radio, he just smiled and said Kyle’s totally capable of handling things on his own! Like, can you believe the nerve? It just felt… dismissive! I mean, it’s the end of an era, and Wilkins acted like it was nothing! He basically said ‘Kyle’s a grown man, he’ll be fine,’ and I just… I can’t with it! It’s so frustrating because he doesn’t seem to understand how HUGE this is for us fans!

The veteran radio host mentioned his own station, Smooth FM, and subtly criticized the recently cancelled Kyle and Jackie O Show, which saw a drop in listeners according to the latest ratings report.

Wilkins reported that Smooth FM continues to be Australia’s most popular radio station, offering a sense of stability during challenging times.

When asked by Daily Mail if his controversial behavior led to his firing, the radio personality avoided answering the question directly.

‘These are interesting times, and he’s got us all talking as he always does,’ Wilkins said.

Natalie Barr, co-host of Sunrise, followed a similar approach to Wilkins, playfully commenting, ‘Yes, it’s big news in the radio world, and we’re all eager to see how things unfold, right?’

‘But I just think more people will be tuning in to Sunrise.’

Shirvington, who co-hosts the ‘Barr’s Brekkie Show,’ tried to address the controversial situation in a careful and neutral way.

He admitted he wasn’t sure how things would play out, saying there were still many details to sort out, likely in reference to Sandilands’ lawsuit regarding his dismissal.

He continued: ‘But one thing I do know is that it’s exciting.’

I’ve been following the news about Henderson, and it sounds like things are really up in the air for her career after her very public split with her co-host. Shirvington seemed to be talking about her situation, and honestly, it’s tough to see what’s next for her professionally.

We’ve had some players leave, and others are currently unavailable, but they likely won’t be out for long.

The Seven Network executive also suggested that KIIS FM’s decision to let Kyle go was driven by changing audience preferences, implying his outspoken approach was no longer as popular.

He explained that standards of what’s considered okay are constantly evolving, and this shift reflects what people want to see.

Shirvington, along with his co-host and Wilkins, attended the Wharf4Ward fundraiser in Woolloomooloo, joining Karl Stefanovic, Peter Overton, and Samantha Armytage.

Michael Wipfli (known as ‘Wippa’) from NOVA Entertainment, actress Kate Ritchie, and Katie Brown from Seven were also at the event. It helps raise money to support young people in rural and regional Australia who are battling cancer, as well as their families.

Natalie recently shared with Daily Mail that she had skin cancer removed and provided an update on her health.

It’s hard to find someone in Australia who hasn’t been affected by cancer, either personally or through a loved one, she explained.

I had a small skin cancer. It was likely caused by years of sun exposure in the 1980s when I used baby oil, but thankfully it was easily treated.

I get checked annually with regular scans, which is a good way to stay on top of my health.
