Osher Gunsberg reveals why he HATES vegans… even though he is one: ‘I’d never use that word’

Osher Gunsberg admits to surprisingly disliking vegans, even though he’s been eating a plant-based diet himself for over two decades.

Osher Günsberg, 51, shared the news while talking with Scottish comedian Daniel Sloss on his podcast, Better Than Yesterday.

They were talking about things they strongly dislike from opposing political viewpoints, and Osher admitted he can’t stand even saying the word ‘vegan’.

 ‘I f***ing hate vegans and I’m vegan,’ Osher said, much to the agreement of Daniel.

‘They’re the reason that I tell people: “Oh I’m just plant-based.” I’d never use that word.’

Osher continued to criticize veganism, explaining he doesn’t appreciate the aggressive methods some vegans use to try and persuade people to adopt their way of life.

‘Like, I’m not going to show you footage of an abattoir, I’m not going to do that,’ he said.

Look, I believe in enjoying life and good food, and that means I’m not going to preach or make anyone feel uncomfortable while they’re eating. You won’t find me making awkward comments or questioning anyone’s choices at the dinner table – I’m all about positive vibes and letting people savor their meals!

Osher said he believes everyone has different tastes when it comes to food, but people who are very outspoken about veganism might want to consider being a little more understanding of others’ choices.

He refused to comment on what others were eating, but strongly urged everyone to be quiet. “What you eat is your own choice,” he said, “but please, just be quiet.”

He added that another ‘ick’ when it comes to vegans is the high standards some apply to others.

‘Why I can’t stand it is you can never be pure enough,’ he said. 

‘It just shoots itself in the foot every time by trying to bully people into it.’  

As someone who really understands the challenges of dietary needs – I also live with coeliac disease – I was really struck by Osher’s recent comments about the limited vegan choices at the Logies. It’s frustrating when events don’t cater well to specific requirements, and it’s something I’m passionate about improving for everyone.

He shared a strange TikTok video of himself dancing and used it to criticize the vegan food served at previous events.

He shared that at the Logies awards, he discovered the dinner option wasn’t suitable for his vegan and gluten-free diet, jokingly expressing his disappointment with a swear word.

The host of The Bachelor joked in the comments that he was guessing what awful food they’d serve him this season.

He mentioned he was thinking about taking bets on it, with the veggie stack currently favored at odds of $1.27, while the mushroom risotto is a long shot at $1.84.

Osher shared that he had to pack his own food to the Logies ceremony in 2018.

Osher explained why he created a special dinner during an appearance on The Kyle & Jackie O Show.

‘Yes I brought my own dinner to the Logies, I got diagnosed a coeliac,’ he admitted.

‘I’m vegan, coeliac and sober. I’m the most boring man in Sydney.’

Osher explained that gluten makes him unwell, and since much of food absorption occurs in the small intestine, even a small amount of gluten reaching that area can cause a problem.

Jackie asked Osher how he managed to sneak his healthy dinner into the exclusive awards ceremony.

‘Who was carrying it?’ she interjected. ‘I didn’t see you carry it on the red carpet.’

He explained he’d asked his publicist to pick up dinner – a healthy, plant-based meal from one of his go-to vegan restaurants – and shared the story with a laugh, mentioning he’d gotten a takeaway container.
