Louis Tomlinson reveals the ‘corny’ One Direction song he disliked performing after toxic rift between stars of the band was revealed

Even though Louis Tomlinson was in one of the most popular boybands ever, he apparently didn’t even like one of One Direction’s biggest songs.

Surprisingly, the singer has revealed the one song they least enjoyed performing. They described it as feeling cheesy and outdated, even though it’s sold millions of copies.

Louis recently revealed he didn’t like performing their hit song, “What Makes You Beautiful,” even though it was the song that made the group famous back in 2011.

He pointed out that, looking back at the song’s lyrics, being in a boyband wasn’t considered trendy at the time.

After One Direction broke up in 2016, each member started their own music career. Louis Tomlinson recently released his third album in January.

Despite the excitement of the launch, recent reports in the Daily Mail highlighted a disagreement between members of the band. You can find more details about the story here.

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! Louis was actually asked about his least favorite One Direction song – can you even imagine?! It was on BBC Radio 2 with Scott Mills, and I was practically glued to the radio. It’s just…the thought of him having to pick a song he doesn’t love is heartbreaking, but I NEEDED to know what it was!

Oh my gosh, he said it! He actually said ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ will always be their defining song! Like, always always always! And he explained why – he said it’s totally their most pop, most bubblegum-pop moment ever, and I just… I knew it! It’s the perfect song, and he gets it! I’m literally screaming right now.

Scott claimed it was a successful outcome, and Louis agreed, saying he’d trust Scott’s judgment. Louis then quickly added that he wasn’t criticizing the process, since everything had turned out well.

Looking back, it felt a bit embarrassing. When I was 18, being in a boy band wasn’t considered cool, and then we unexpectedly became very popular, which changed things. But for the first couple of years, it wasn’t like that at all, he explained.

Honestly, that line – “Baby, you light up my world like nobody else” – felt a bit cheesy, like something you’d hear in a Disney movie.

During the interview, Louis revealed his favorite One Direction song was likely “Story of My Life.” He felt it represented a particularly special time for the band.

That song didn’t really fit with what people expected from One Direction, and I think it marked a change in our direction as a band.

I definitely felt proud that our song wasn’t something you could dance to. Before us, there was a pretty established formula for boy bands, and I think that song really helped us stand out and move away from that typical mold.

After Louis released his third album in January, he seemed to publicly criticize Harry Styles, as their new music came out on the same day.

Following the release of his album, Louis seemed to realize he was in a tough competition for the top spot and asked his 28.8 million followers on X (formerly Twitter) to help him stand out.

He wrote that he’ll need our help over the next few days to focus on what matters. He wants to make sure this album gets the attention it deserves!

People immediately commented, wondering if the singer was subtly criticizing his old bandmate, Harry.

Someone posted “cut through the noise,” and it reminded me of Harry Styles. It seems like they’re playfully accusing him of being shady, saying something like, “Is he trying to subtly diss Harry?” It ends with a playful jab at Harry Styles himself.

Louis hasn’t addressed claims that he made a subtle insult towards Harry Styles, but he did publicly thank his supporters.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career. Your support means the world to me and is reflected in everything I create.

I couldn’t have created this album without the incredible support and belief you’ve all shown me. I’m so grateful – thank you from the bottom of my heart! It’s still amazing to me that I’m here.
