Lucasfilm announced it will be making improvements to its animated series, Tales of the Jedi, which premiered on Disney+ in October 2022. The series featured two separate story arcs, focusing on the Jedi characters Dooku and Ahsoka Tano. While generally well-received, the show had some issues that viewers pointed out. Lucasfilm plans to fix these problems with updates planned for 2026.
Lucasfilm plans to expand the story and character depth of a key figure in Tales of the Jedi in April 2026, addressing concerns that this character wasn’t developed enough. Specifically, the villain known as the Eleventh Brother was prominently featured in trailers for the Ahsoka arc on Disney+, leading viewers to expect a significant challenge for Ahsoka. However, he was quickly defeated, which left many fans feeling underwhelmed.
A new trailer for the upcoming animated series Maul: Shadow Lord has been released by Star Wars and Lucasfilm. The trailer gave fans a preview of the story and included a surprising cameo hinting at a future confrontation with Maul.

The character was revealed to be the Eleventh Brother, an Inquisitor previously seen battling Ahsoka in Tales of the Jedi. While he appeared in Tales, his role was very brief, and many fans were disappointed that he was killed off after only a few minutes of screen time.

It’s unclear how significant the Eleventh Brother will be in the Maul series. He only appeared briefly in the trailer, but his presence suggests the show might delve into his history – something fans have been hoping for ever since he was first introduced in the Tales of the Jedi announcement.
Since Ahsoka defeated the Eleventh Brother in Tales of the Jedi, he won’t be killed by Maul in Shadow Lord. They might still fight, but it appears he’s included in the story primarily to give fans a chance to learn more about his character.

As a big fan of Tales of the Jedi, I’m really hoping Shadow Lord fills in some gaps about the Eleventh Brother. If it does, and gives us more of his story, it’ll make an already great series even better – and honestly, it would solve pretty much the only complaint a lot of us have had!
Many viewers were disappointed by how easily Ahsoka defeated the Eleventh Brother, feeling he was just another weak Inquisitor. If the new character, Shadow Lord, is given a compelling backstory – perhaps showing his training as a Jedi and demonstrating his Force abilities – his defeat wouldn’t feel so insignificant in Tales of the Jedi.

If that occurred, it would also highlight Ahsoka’s strength, showing how easily she overcame him.
The new series, Maul: Shadow Lord, will debut on Disney+ on April 6, 2026. You can watch the official trailer below.
Star Wars’ History of Fixing Past Projects
I’ve always been amazed by how Star Wars keeps evolving! Seeing Maul: Shadow Lord refine Tales of the Jedi reminded me of something really special: when The Clone Wars first came out in 2008. It totally changed how people, including me, viewed the prequel movies. It wasn’t just a new series, it actually enhanced the whole prequel era – it was incredible!
Many fans believe that The Clone Wars actually made Attack of the Clones a better movie. The show dedicated time to developing the clone troopers as characters, allowing viewers to connect with them. This made the moment when they followed Order 66 all the more heartbreaking.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I always thought The Clone Wars really filled in the gaps and made Anakin’s fall in Revenge of the Sith even more impactful. Honestly, the series just enriched the whole universe and, in my opinion, actually saved two movies that got a lot of flak. Now, I’m really hoping Maul: Shadow Lord can do the same kind of thing for Tales of the Jedi – give it the depth and context it deserves.
