The Best Hunting Horns In Monster Hunter Stories 3

The Monster Hunter series features many different weapons, and while only six were included in Monster Hunter Stories 3, the developers thankfully chose to include the Hunting Horn – a particularly unique one.

The Hunting Horn is a unique weapon that lets you support your team and attack enemies simultaneously. By playing melodies, you can boost your allies’ stats while dealing damage – here are some of the best Hunting Horns in the game.

Dodotto Horn – Blangonga

  • Two Note Melody – Frigid Melody

    • Ice Attack and Defense Up (S)
  • Four Note Melody – Sundering Melody

    • Increases damage dealt to monster parts

Blangonga is back in Monster Hunter Stories, now appearing in the Serathis region with a group of Blangos! If you manage to defeat it, you’ll be able to craft powerful weapons that capture its fierce spirit.

The Dodotto Horn can inflict up to 150 Ice damage, as well as 35 Wyvernfell damage. It also has one slot for a decoration. Using Melodies with this horn can further boost your Ice damage and the damage dealt to specific parts of a monster.

Golm Drum – Garangolm

  • Two Note Melody – Wyvernfell Melody

    • Wyvernfell Up (M)
  • Four Note Melody – Sheltering Melody

    • Increases all elemental resistances to max

Garangolm initially debuted in Sunbreak but wasn’t very popular. Now, it’s back as a really tough monster, and its weapons are incredibly powerful, reflecting its strength.

The Golm Drum deals a total of 183 damage – 148 normal damage and 35 Wyvernfell damage. It also has space for three Decorations and provides an additional 10 Defense. When combined with Melodies, it can maximize your resistance to all elemental types.

Bariguiro – Barioth

  • Two Note Melody – Frigid Melody

    • Ice Attack and Defense Up (S)
  • Four Note Melody – Graceful Melody

    • Evade all attacks for one turn (all allies)

Barioth is a very fast and incredibly dangerous monster, similar to a Tigrex but covered in snow and armed with sharp claws. Once you’ve defeated it after it’s been brought back to a specific area, you can unlock abilities based on its speed and sharpness.

The Bariguiro deals between 1 and 150 Ice damage. Although it only has one decoration slot and a relatively low 15 Wyvernfell, it compensates with a 15% critical hit rate and the Graceful Melody skill. Graceful Melody allows you and your teammates to automatically dodge one attack, making it a valuable support item to have on hand when you need it.

Striped Dragonga – Tigrex

  • Two Note Melody – Elementless Melody

    • Non-Elem Attack and Defense Up (S)
  • Four Note Melody – Fleet Melody

    • Increases Speed to max.

Tigrex is a truly terrifying monster, capable of quickly defeating hunters with its strong attacks. Interestingly, once you defeat it, you can gain access to the Hunting Horn, which grants you increased speed – a key trait of the Tigrex itself.

The Striped Dragonga deals 154 normal damage when fully upgraded and has a Wyvernfell stat of 35, but it only has one slot for decorations. The Fleet Melody, on the other hand, maximizes your speed, allowing you to move faster than anything else in the game.

Sinister Strum – Magnamalo

  • Two Note Melody – Elementless Melody

    • Non-Elem Attack and Defense Up (S)
  • Four Note Melody – Mighty Melody

    • Grants Attack, Defense, and Dodge Up (L)

Magnamalo, a fan-favorite from Monster Hunter Rise, is back and even more dangerous, now inflicting Blastblight with its fiery attacks. Defeating it in the Serathis area unlocks access to incredibly strong new weapons.

The Sinister Strum does up to 160 normal damage and has 25 Wyvernfell. It’s also great at applying Blastblight to enemies and has room for three decorations. When combined with Mighty Melody, this creates a powerful combination – you’ll deal significant damage while being very difficult to hit.

Veldian Sibilus – Arkveld

  • Two Note Melody – Wyvernfell Melody

    • Wyvernfell Up (M)
  • Four Note Melody – Fettered Melody

    • Increases damage dealt by Synchro Rush

Inspired by the distinctive features of Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds, Stories introduces a Wyvernsoul Gauge that builds up as you fight, and weapons that react automatically to your actions.

The Veldian Sibilus is a powerful weapon, dealing 170 Dragon damage, 25 Wyvernfell damage, and offering three slots for Decorations. It also features a special ability called Fettered Melody, which boosts the damage of Synchro attacks – making it great for team play!

Azure Elder Horn – Wind Serpent Ibushi

  • Two Note Melody – Wyrmslayer Melody

    • Grants Dragon Attack and Defense Up (S)
  • Four Note Melody – Welcoming Melody

    • Fills the Kinship Gauge

Ibushi and Narwa are a challenging duo to defeat, but overcoming them is rewarding. They unlock access to some of the game’s most powerful weapons, with the majority of these coming from Ibushi.

The Azure Elder Horn is a strong weapon, dealing 178 Dragon damage and 15 Wyvernfell damage. It has one slot for decorations. What makes it special is its ‘Welcoming Melody’ skill, which helps you quickly fill your Kinship Gauge for more powerful attacks.

Spirit Dragonwood Horn – Yama Tsukami

  • Two Note Melody – Wyvernfell Melody

    • Grants WyvernfellUp (M)
  • Four Note Melody – Demonic Melody

    • Increases damage dealt to Elder Dragons

Once you’ve battled Yama Tsukami in the Dragonreach Mountains, you might encounter them again in Tarkuan. They’ll have recovered from the crystal sickness that weakened them before, and they’ll be armed with a variety of new weapons.

The Spirit Dragonwood Horn deals 170 normal damage and 25 Wyvernfell damage. It doesn’t have any decoration slots, but it’s special because it’s one of the few Hunting Horns that can inflict Paralysis. Plus, it helps you deal extra damage to Elder Dragons.

Duke’s Grail – Malzeno

  • Two Note Melody – Wyrmslayer Melody

    • Grants Dragon Attack and Defense Up (S)
  • Four Note Melody – Blood Moon Melody

    • Allows you to drain HP with your attacks

Malzeno, the incredibly powerful Elder Dragon who stole the spotlight in Sunbreak, is back in Stories as the only one of its kind wandering the world. It’s not just a formidable Monstie to battle with, but also a source of some of the best weapons you can find.

Duke’s Grail is a powerful weapon dealing 174 Dragon and 15 Wyvernfell damage, and it has space for two decorations. Its most notable feature is Blood Moon Melody, which is a safer version of Blood Rite. It allows you to drain health with each attack, but unlike Blood Rite, you won’t take damage yourself while using it, and you won’t get the extra damage bonus.

Icespiel – Velkhana

  • Two Note Melody – Frigid Melody

    • Grants Ice Attack and Defense Up (S)
  • Four Note Melody – Frozen Melody

    • Gain Power Charge when no attack is made.

Velkhana is a very strong Elder Dragon, but surprisingly, this fight isn’t too difficult. That’s good news, as it means you can more easily get the powerful weapons it drops.

Icespiel deals 174 Ice damage and has 25 Wyvernfell. It also has two slots for decorations and a special ability called Frozen Melody. Frozen Melody builds up Power Charge each turn you skip attacking, allowing you to use items for buffs and simultaneously increase the strength of your next attack.
