Classless displays of wealth, endless feuds… now Hermès-loving housewife Victoria Montano has sparked fury after mocking the ‘have-nots’. She deleted the post – but the elite group chats have spoken

A well-known resident of Sydney’s eastern suburbs is receiving criticism for a recent, insensitive post on social media. This isn’t the first time they’ve sparked controversy.

Victoria Montano, who appears on The Real Housewives of Sydney and is married to financier Timothy Odillo Maher, posted a photo to her Instagram Stories on Saturday. The photo showed a tent set up in a park near a baby stroller.

It’s unclear who they belonged to, but they may have been lost by someone without a home.

Victoria, age 40, photographed the disheartening view and shared it online with the caption, ‘Waterfront living at Woolloomooloo.’

The socialite faced criticism last year after sharing a video that many considered boastful and insensitive, highlighting her expensive clothes. She later removed the video.

From what I’m hearing, a screenshot of this situation made the rounds online – specifically in those social media groups where people love to talk about what others are doing. And honestly, a lot of people were upset, feeling like it showed a lack of awareness about those who aren’t as lucky. It really sparked a conversation about being mindful of privilege and how we present ourselves.

‘It’s so tone-deaf,’ said a source.

But anyone hoping for an apology shouldn’t hold their breath. 

Victoria faced criticism on Monday after sharing a post online that many considered insensitive, as it highlighted her luxurious lifestyle in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

A mother posted a video online showing her daughter practicing the cello in their waterfront home in Darling Point.

The reality star shared that it’s difficult when you’re going through a tough time but feel unable to talk about it for fear of being judged.

Victoria is no stranger to showing off her life of excess on social media. 

Last July, she sparked some discussion when she posted pictures of her lavish wardrobe – estimated to be worth about $100,000 – during a family vacation in St. Tropez.

She showcased her legs in a $2,200 polka-dot dress by Patou, accessorizing with a vibrant yellow Hermès Kelly clutch valued at around $11,800.

She showcased a Dior blouse priced at $3,500, and also wore Dolce & Gabbana outfits worth almost $17,000 in total.

She also highlighted her array of Hermès bags, which the socialite is known to collect. 

She was seen with two different Kelly bags: a small green one that costs $29,000, and a brown one that can sell for as much as $28,000.

She boasted in the caption that her trip to the South of France was over for the year, calling it her ‘absolute favorite’ destination.

‘Which one is your fave?’ she asked her 32,800 followers.

Last June, Victoria and the other women from The Real Housewives of Sydney received criticism after a video showing off their wealth became popular online and was widely considered embarrassing.

The video showed Victoria and her Real Housewives of Sydney co-stars, Krissy Marsh, Victoria Rees, and Matty Samaei, showing off their expensive designer clothes.

Krissy proudly showed off her revealing cream-colored mini dress by Nookie, playfully declaring, ‘I’m wearing Nookie – back door fashion!’

Victoria Rees, wearing a bright red blazer with a black shirt and jeans, mentioned she was dressed in Victoria Beckham and Zadig & Voltaire clothing.

Matty showed off a leopard-print dress, but Victoria’s outfit sparked the biggest reaction – and it wasn’t a positive one.

She playfully referred to her expensive taste – Dior, Valentino, and a Hermès bag – as ‘Montano money,’ showing off her outfit of denim shorts, a bralette, a silky shirt, and high heels as she walked around.

The ostentatious display of wealth was roundly criticised on social media.

‘If you have to name your labels, you’re classless,’ one critic sniped.

‘What’s with the comment “Montano money”? Ridiculous,’ a second added.

‘Look so cheap for rich girls,’ another wrote, as a fourth asked: ‘Why behave like that?’

Besides sparking controversy with her insensitive Instagram posts, Victoria is also known for her conflicts with the other women on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.

Last March, a heated argument erupted between Victoria and Terry Biviano at a glamorous birthday party thrown by socialite Elaine Kwan. Guests included Ellie Aitken and Alina Barlow, the daughter of Russian billionaire and former Sydney FC owner David Traktovenko.

The disagreement started when Victoria’s husband, Timothy, accused Terry of spreading rumors about other people’s relationships and personal lives.

Things really heated up at the party, and honestly, it got pretty uncomfortable. I could hear shouting from across the room – really harsh accusations being thrown around. It was definitely a shocking moment for everyone there.

The disagreement at the party has deeply damaged the relationship between the two women, and they’ve apparently stopped talking and unfollowed each other on social media.

Victoria also previously fell out with fellow Housewife and former BFF Martine Chippendale.

These two neighbors, who both live in the upscale Darling Point area, were once very close friends, but it’s been reported they’ve had a falling out and are no longer communicating.

The two women are reportedly feuding so badly that they’ve both cancelled appearances at the last minute to avoid encountering each other, resulting in a string of unexplained ‘scheduling conflicts’.

It’s normal for the Foxtel show to have intense competition between contestants, but this particular rivalry reportedly caused significant problems for the people making the show.

Recent reports from last year showed that Victoria used her influence and connections to help Martine get cast on the reality show, adding another layer to their ongoing conflict.

The conflict reportedly started after Victoria found out Martine had been talking about her behind her back to the other women on the show.
