Fans and judges of The Masked Singer were surprised on Saturday when Kate Nash and Anton Du Beke were revealed to be behind the Monkey Business and Arctic Fox costumes.
Toastie, Red Panda, Monkey Business, Fox, Can of Worms, Conkers, Moth, and Sloth all performed songs while wearing elaborate costumes.
As a lifestyle expert, I always say every journey has an ending, and that was true for Kate and Anton on the show! They gave it their all performing for the judges – Maya Jama, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, and the wonderful Perrie Edwards – but sadly, it turned out to be their final performance. It was bittersweet to watch, but they should be incredibly proud of how far they came!
The singer, known for her song ‘Foundations,’ performed ‘As Long As He Needs Me’ from the musical Oliver!. She revealed she included several coffee-themed clues because she previously appeared in the films Coffee Wars and Syrup.
As a little insider detail, I noticed something fun on set! The clapperboard actually said ‘Take 615’ – and that’s Nashville’s area code. It’s a clever nod to the artist’s last name, a subtle way to connect the location and the performer. It’s these little details that really make a production special!
She mentioned there’s a lot of competition in the industry, which seemed to be a reference to Danny Dyer, the actor from Rivals, being featured in her ‘Wasteman’ music video.
The judges and audience were surprised when the masked singer was revealed, with many believing it could have been Lily Allen, Kimberly Wyatt, or Shona McGarty.
Kate shared that she really appreciates how kind everyone at work is. She also mentioned she was happy to focus on something purely enjoyable and entertaining, especially after a busy period of touring and a lot of politically focused work.
It was great to relax, have fun, sing along, and enjoy the show and music. I really like people who don’t take themselves too seriously and have a playful side.
Also unmasked was Strictly judge and icon Anton, who performed Barbra Streisand’s Woman in Love.
He used seven acorns as clues, as the star is from Sevenoaks, Kent.
The flour bags alluded to his past as a baker, and the phrase ‘bottom of success’ was a playful reference to the time he won Rear of the Year.
He was pleased I mistook him for a drag queen, explaining he was fully embracing that persona and performing with a lot of energy and flair.
‘I was clenching and releasing every second, I don’t know how I’m going to go back.’
Anton added that he ‘loved every second’ was ‘devastated to have been voted off’.
The celebrity also mentioned feeling comfortable and at ease while wearing the Arctic Fox boots, jokingly saying, ‘I’ve done this before,’ referencing his experience on Strictly Come Dancing.
Maya, 31, looked stunning in a long, white dress with a fishtail hem and delicate gold floral design, which beautifully highlighted her figure.
Davina, 58, caught everyone’s attention with a vibrant, hot pink mini dress. The dress had a high neckline and an open front, and she completed the look with matching heels.
Jonathan and his co-star both wore bright pink jackets, while Mo looked sharp in a navy and black tuxedo.
Guest judge Perrie looked stunning in a sparkly pink and white mini dress. She was pregnant during filming and recently welcomed her second baby with her fiancé, footballer Alex Oxlade.
Everyone was surprised last week when Marcella Detroit, the famous singer from the 90s pop group Shakespears Sister, was revealed to be the performer behind the Gargoyle costume on the show.
Despite some fun performances, Sloth and Gargoyle unfortunately found themselves facing elimination.
Sloth and Gargoyle competed by performing classic songs: Sloth covered Tommy Steele’s “Flash Bang Wallop” from 1979, and Gargoyle performed their own version of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts’ “Bad Reputation.”
Unfortunately, Gargoyle was eliminated, and the judges believed the performer could be Cindy Lauper, Joan Jett, Wendy James, Ruby Wax, or Fiona Bruce.
But they were all wrong, with Gargoyle finally being unmasked as Marcella.
The week before John Lydon was revealed as Yak.
Monkey Business and Yak competed against each other in a singing contest for the judges. Unfortunately, Yak didn’t get enough votes and was eliminated after performing Olivia Newton-John’s classic song, ‘Physical’.
And prior to that week Matt Lucas was revealed to be Emperor Penguin on Sunday night’s show.
The 51-year-old comedian surprised and delighted fans with his singing during a performance with a band, and then took a seat as a guest judge.
The show had a double reveal when Teabag was eliminated, and it turned out he was rapper Professor Green, age 42.
