Good news for fans of the “Jack Ryan” series! John Krasinski is returning as the iconic Jack Ryan in a new movie, Jack Ryan: Ghost War. It’s been nearly three years since the last season ended with Ryan uncovering corruption and escaping a dangerous situation in Myanmar, and the trailer shows this film will deliver the same exciting action we’ve come to love.
The Amazon series follows Jack Ryan, a character created by Tom Clancy and featured in fourteen of his novels. The show depicts Ryan’s career progression – from his time as a Marine and CIA analyst, through field work, and eventually to a leadership role as acting deputy director of the intelligence agency. He ultimately resigns after discovering corruption linking a US Senator to an international criminal organization. While not based on a specific Clancy book, the series shares a similar feel to the show Homeland, following Ryan as he travels the world to defend the United States against threats of crime and terrorism.
The title of the new film was announced on Monday with a short preview shared on the show’s official social media. Fans are now getting a closer look at what Ryan will do after stepping down from his leadership role at the CIA. The movie is scheduled for release in May, almost three years after the Season 4 finale, “Proof of Concept.” Andrew Bernstein, who previously directed three episodes of Season 2 – including its finale, “Strongman” – directed the film. The screenplay was written by Aaron Rabin, a key writer for Season 4, and is based on a story by Krasinski and Noah Oppenheim, who also wrote the Natalie Portman film Jackie and is working with Kathryn Bigelow on the upcoming Netflix movie A House of Dynamite.

Joining Krasinski are returning cast members Wendell Pierce, Michael Kelly, and Betty Gabriel, as well as new faces Sienna Miller, Mckenna Bridger, Max Beesley, Douglas Hodge, and JJ Field.
