As a huge sci-fi fan, I was absolutely hooked on The OA. It was quickly becoming one of the best shows of the decade, so I was devastated when Netflix canceled it. Honestly, Netflix has a real habit of axing promising shows way too soon, and it’s gotten to the point where I’m seriously considering canceling my subscription. It’s just frustrating to see good content cut short.
It’s frustrating when you discover a great show on Netflix, quickly watch all the episodes of the first season, and then find out there aren’t any more. Sometimes there’s a second season, but then the show just stops. You might assume another season is coming, but a quick search online often reveals it’s been unexpectedly canceled.
It’s really annoying when a show you’re starting to enjoy gets canceled by Netflix, and it makes you wary of trying new ones. The OA was a good example of this – it was a fantastic show that unfortunately didn’t get the chance to fully develop over more seasons.
The OA Was One Of The 2010s’ Best Sci-Fi Shows
The OA is a short-lived series, lasting two seasons, starring Brit Marling as Prairie Johnson. After disappearing for seven years, Prairie returns calling herself “the OA” and exhibiting mysterious changes: she has scars on her back, can see despite previously being blind, and remains secretive about her whereabouts during her absence.
As a huge fan of intriguing stories, I was immediately hooked by The OA. It centers around this woman who brings together five people to help her rescue others trapped in the dimension she escaped from. From the very first episode, it throws you into a mystery and just keeps building – it’s a really captivating and thrilling ride that never lets up.
This TV show is really unusual, blending science fiction, fantasy, mystery, and drama into a single, well-connected story. It’s considered one of the best sci-fi shows of the 2010s because it tackles its biggest questions while still being boldly creative and delightfully strange.
The OA Was Just Overcoming Its Early Flaws When Netflix Canceled It

The first season of The OA has a few initial hiccups, which is common when starting a new science fiction show. The season primarily focuses on establishing the core mysteries and exploring how everyone is adjusting to Prairie’s unexpected return after being presumed dead.
The first season of The OA takes a little while to find its footing, but it really comes into its own towards the end. Season 2 builds on that momentum, becoming even stronger. It keeps the focus on compelling characters and a unique atmosphere, but now with a much clearer story arc.
The cancellation of The OA after just two seasons is especially disappointing. It wasn’t just losing a good show; it was seeing a truly promising sci-fi series cut short right when it was hitting its stride.
