Invincible Star Explains Spider-Man 2-Like Plot in Season 4

The trailer for Invincible Season 4 showed that Eve will have trouble controlling her powers, and Gillian Jacobs, who voices the character, recently explained how Eve will cope. In an interview, the 43-year-old actress described Eve’s storyline as similar to that of Spider-Man 2, where the character struggles with their abilities.

Gillian Jacobs breaks down Eve’s arc in Invincible Season 4

During a Zoom interview, actor Gillian Jacobs, known for her role in Community, shared that her character, Atom Eve, will struggle with an identity crisis in the fourth season due to difficulties controlling her powers.

As a big fan, I’ve always loved how the show explored her struggle with being a superhero. It was cool to see her find a balance using her powers through the company she built with Mark, and it genuinely seemed to make her happy. But now, it feels like a really pivotal moment for her. Gillian Jacobs pointed out in an interview that this season, she’s really questioning who she is without her powers, something she’s probably always taken for granted. It’s a tough spot for her, and honestly, I’m really excited to see how she navigates it.

Near the end of Invincible Season 3, Eve barely survives a fight with Conquest. Desperate for a way to live, her body breaks through a mental barrier that had been limiting her powers, giving her the ability to control living things. But this sudden and massive power increase causes problems after the battle, hinting at what’s to come for her character in Season 4. This is similar to what happens in the comic books, though there, Eve’s power surge is triggered by her pregnancy.

Similar to Eve in Invincible, Peter Parker (played by Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 2) experiences a crisis when he suddenly loses his powers. This forces the Marvel superhero to confront who he is without his abilities, before eventually regaining control.

Meanwhile, Invincible Season 4 is on track to hit Prime Video on March 18.
