On Monday in Surrey, Sophie Turner fully embraced her role as Lara Croft, filming exciting action sequences from the Tomb Raider series while holding two guns.
The 29-year-old actress, the newest to play the famous character, was spotted quickly walking through the woods carrying two guns while the film crew shot both close-up and long-distance scenes.
Oh my gosh, you guys, Sophie was absolutely breathtaking today! I was watching her film these really intense scenes – she was running and fighting and just giving it everything in the woods. It was so physically demanding, but she didn’t even seem to notice! And then, finally, she ran towards this gorgeous old stone building hidden amongst the trees… it was like something out of a fairytale, and she looked incredible against that backdrop. Seriously, I couldn’t take my eyes off her!
The actor from Game of Thrones was spotted taking cover by a stone wall and then tossing something through a small window.
Sophie copied Lara’s style, wearing a brown belt and braiding her long hair.
She wore khaki cargo pants with a brown sweater and a blue vest on top.
The British star finished the outfit with black, knee-high boots, concealing a knife in the tops, and a small backpack.
The Joan star was spotted being chased through the woodland on set by a duo both carrying guns.
A few days before, Sophie was filming a scene in the woods where her character fought with a knife, and she was caught in the rain during the action.
The actress was spotted speeding away on a motorcycle with her co-star, 28-year-old Martin Bobb-Semple, at the wheel.
Filming for the show’s challenging and strenuous scenes started at night in a forest, and the actors immediately jumped into work.
Sophie convincingly portrayed her role, looking distressed as she ran through the woods with a knife before Martin found and helped her.
The nighttime filming turned the peaceful area into a muddy, brightly lit scene resembling a battlefield.
Martin will star as Zip, who is hired by Lara as her trusted tech support man and friend.
Sophie is taking on the famous role previously played by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, and she’s been preparing for the action sequences with over a year of stunt training.
Speaking to ScreenRant, she said: ‘I can’t say much, but my preparation began in February [2025].
I’ve been training for almost a year, and filming will begin in January.
I’m thrilled and confident about what we’ve created with Lara Croft and Tomb Raider. We have a strong partnership with Amazon, and I believe the final result will be truly remarkable. I can’t wait for everyone to experience it.
She joins the likes of Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs in the video game adaptation.
Oh my gosh, you wouldn’t BELIEVE what they went through! Sophie actually had this awful, ongoing back problem while they were training – it was SO intense, and they pushed through it! It just shows how dedicated they are, honestly. I was so worried when I heard, but they’re such pros!
Oh my gosh, you guys, I just heard Sophie on The Julia Cunningham Show and she said they’ve been training nonstop since February of last year! Like, eight hours a day, five days a week! Can you even imagine? It’s absolutely insane how dedicated they are, seriously a lot of work!
I recently found out I have an ongoing back issue. It’s also become clear that building muscle is much simpler if you’ve exercised before, and I hadn’t. Because of that, it’s taken me a long time – many months – to get in good shape.
Sophie Turner is famous for playing Sansa Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones, but she says her time on the show didn’t help her prepare for the role of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider because she didn’t do much action during her years on Game of Thrones.
Honestly, I always saw myself as the one above all that drama. I wasn’t the type to start fights; I was usually the one in them, taking the hits, not giving them. It just wasn’t my style to get involved in that way.
‘So, it’s quite nice to learn how to throw a punch and not just take it.’
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for her role in Fleabag, is the creative force behind a new project. She wrote it, developed it, and will also executive produce.
In September, she revealed that Sophie Turner would be playing Lara, expressing her excitement about working with Turner and the rest of the talented team.
‘It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving.
The whole team is incredibly enthusiastic about Lara, and they’re just as daring, funny, and bold as she is. Prepare yourselves – Lara Croft is on her way!
This series is based on the popular video game and will tell the story of Lara Croft, a brave archaeologist and explorer, as she goes on exciting adventures.
Sophie Turner, known for her acclaimed performance as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones—which earned her an Emmy nomination—has recently starred in the ITV drama Joan and the thriller film Trust. She’s now preparing for her next role in the British series, The Dreadful.
Sophie shared her excitement and nervousness about taking on the role of Lara Croft, saying she was ‘thrilled beyond measure’ to be cast.
She’s a truly memorable character who resonates with a lot of people, and I’m fully committed to doing my best.
Okay, so following Angelina and Alicia felt… impossible, right? Those women owned those roles. But honestly? Phoebe is just… perfect. I’m completely obsessed, and I truly believe she’s going to absolutely nail it. I’m so excited for everyone to finally see what we’ve all been working on – I think Lara’s in amazing hands, and honestly, I feel safe knowing Phoebe’s leading the charge. I can barely contain myself!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sophie won the role after competing with Mackenzie Davis, Emma Mackey, and Lucy Boynton.
This new series has a powerful team of producers behind it and is expected to be one of Prime Video’s biggest releases to date.
