Samara Weaving never expected Ready or Not 2 to happen: “It was oddly emotional”

I’m so excited! Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is finally out in theaters! It’s been almost seven years since the first one, and honestly, even Samara Weaving – who plays Grace – was shocked they figured out a way to make a sequel! It’s cool to see them continuing her story.

She’s back as Grace in the sequel, and this time she has to work with her sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) to survive a dangerous new game orchestrated by the world’s richest and most powerful families.

In an interview with Digital Spy before the release of Ready or Not 2, Samara Weaving shared her surprise at revisiting Grace’s famously blood-stained wedding dress. She said they initially believed the first film was so unusual that it wouldn’t reach a large audience.

We had a lot of fun creating the project and were thrilled with how well it was received by audiences. It was great to reunite the original team and then bring in some new, talented people to work on it.

Kathryn Newton, having previously collaborated with the directors of Ready or Not 2 on Abigail, was eager to join the project when offered the opportunity. She was already familiar with their style and enjoyed working with them.

I got a call while I was heading to dance class in New York. They told me they wanted to make another movie with me, and they’d actually already mentioned it before. I couldn’t believe it at first, but they insisted they were serious, she told Digital Spy.

Honestly, they couldn’t really share much yet, they were just feeling me out to see if I’d even be interested. And I was – absolutely, 100% yes! I’m a huge fan of their work. It’s cool to find a new job, but it’s something else entirely when you get to work with people you truly admire. I seriously think they’re amazing filmmakers.

The new movie starts right where the first one left off, so Grace is still wearing the same dress—even though it’s covered in blood from the wild ending of the previous film.

The dress has become incredibly famous – even Sarah Michelle Gellar, who worked with Weaving, has said she’d love to have one of her own. Seeing the wedding dress again actually affected Weaving more than she anticipated.

It was surprisingly touching. We were having a costume fitting with the team – including the directors, Radio Silence, costume designer Avery, and producer Tripp Vinson – all of whom I’d worked with on the first movie. When I came out wearing the dress, we all unexpectedly got emotional, she said.

It really captured how happy we all were to be making another movie. Seeing Grace in that dress was a fun idea, and once we found a way to include it in the script, we were all thrilled – even though it was a bit awkward, and honestly, I was a little worried about filming it.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is released in cinemas on 20 March.
